SPECIAL CALLED MEETING
OCTOBER 17, 2000

CALL TO ORDER AND ANNOUNCE A QUORUM:
With a quomm of the Board present, the Sign Control Board was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by
Chairperson Jones at the Planning Department Conference Room, Allen City Hall, One Allen Cmc Plaza,
Allen, Texas.
1 Review of Central Business District Section of Sign Ordinance Proposal
Ms Manna Sukup presented a PowerPoint presentation on the Central Business District (CBD) Plan,
including the background, committee meetings, and a summary of the proposal. She indicated that the
Planning and Zoning Commission will hold a public hearing on October 26, 2000, on the Sign Ordinance,
and the City Council will hold a public hearing on December 2, 2000, regarding the Sign Ordinance and
the CBD Plan.
The Board reviewed the proposal for signs in the CBD, and a proposed definition for lamppost signs
They indicated concurrence with the proposed text except that wall signs in Design District #1 should only
be a maximum of 150 square feet, rather than 200 square feet.
Staff presented a proposal to allow the Sign Board final action on variances unless an appeal or protest is
filed within ten days. The Board discussed this proposal and indicated that they would be in favor of the
revised text.

MOTION: Upon a motion by Board Member Spivey and a second by Board Member Brown, the
Board voted 5 FOR and 0 OPPOSED to recommend approval of the regulations for
signage in the Central Business District with a maximum of 150 square feet for wall signs
in Design District #1. The motion carred.
MOTION: Upon a motion by Board Member Brown and a second by Board Member Moore, the
Board voted 5 FOR and 0 OPPOSED to recommend approval of the proposed definition
for lamppost sign. The motion carried.
MOTION: Upon a mobon by Board Member Moore and a second by Board Member Lewis, the
Board voted 5 FOR and 0 OPPOSED to recommend approval of the proposed change in
text to Section 2.032 of the Allen Land Development Code, changing the procedure for
variance requests. The motion carried
ADJOURNMENT
MOTION: Upon a motion by Board Member Broom and a second by Board Member Moore, the
Board voted 5 FOR and 0 OPPOSED to adjourn the October 17, 2000, meeting of the
Sign Control Board at 9:00 p.m. The motion carried.
