1 CALL TO ORDER:
The Allen Sign Control Board was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by Chairman
Chrisman at the Allen Municipal Annex, City Council Chambers, One Butler Circle,
Allen, Texas.
Approve Minutes
May 9, 1989 (Agenda Item II)
Chairman Chrisman read the agenda item into the record as follows:
"Approve minutes of May 9, 1989, Regular Meeting."
MOTION: Upon a motion by Board Member Crowe and a second by Board Member
Cox, the Board voted 4 FOR and 0 OPPOSED to approve the minutes
of May 9, 1989, as presented.

Class 4 Off -Site Sign
United Homecraft, Inc. (Agenda Item III)
Chairman Chrisman read the agenda item into the record as follows:
"Consider approval of Class 4 off-site sign for United Homecraft, Inc.
located at Southeast corner of Bethany Drive and U.S. 75."
The Board discussed the placement of the sign with regard to the existing For Sale
signs on the property. It was determined that the sign will be placed at an
appropriate distance from the existing signs.
MOTION: Upon a motion by Board Member Crowe and a second by Board Member
Leverett, the Board voted 4 FOR and 0 OPPOSED to approve the Class
4 Off-site sign requested by United Homecraft, Inc., to be located at
the southeast corner of Bethany Drive and U.S. 75.
Consider 4th Renewal
Western Gulf Savings & Loan (Agenda Item IV)
Chairman Chrisman read the agenda item into the record as follows:
"Consider 4th renewal for Class 4 sign for Western Gulf Savings & Loan
Asso. located at Central McDermott Place Addition facing U.S. 75 south of
F.M. 2170."
Mr. Del Ferro advised the Board that the sign is in good repair.
MOTION: Upon a motion by Board Member Leverett and a second by Board
Member Cox, the Board voted 4 FOR and 0 OPPOSED to approve the
4th renewal for Class 4 sign located at Central McDermott Place facing
U.S. 75 south of F.M. 2170.

Consider 1st Renewal
Legacy Homes (Agenda Item V)
Chairman Chrisman read the agenda item into the record as follows:
"Consider tat renewal for Class 4 sign for Legacy Homes located at 776
Livingston."
Mr. Del Ferro advised the Board that the sign is in good repair.
MOTION: Upon a motion by Board Member Cox and a second by Board Member
Leverett, the Board voted 4 FOR and 0 OPPOSED to approve the 1st
renewal for Legacy Homes located at 776 Livingston.
Consider 8th Renewal
Tomlin Properties (Agenda Item VI)
Chairman Chrisman read the agenda item into the record as follows:
"Consider Sth renewal for Class 4 sign for Tomlin Properties located 200 feet
North of the Northwest corner of U.S. 75 and Bethany."
Mr. Del Ferro advised the Board that the sign is not in good repair and requires
complete reconstruction.
MOTION: Upon a motion by Board Member Leverett and a second by Board
Member Crowe, the Board voted 4 FOR and 0 OPPOSED to deny the
request for renewal by Tomlin Properties.
Consider 2nd Renewal
Allen Heights Shopping Center (Agenda Item VII)
Chairman Chrisman read the agenda item into the record as follows:
"Consider 2nd renewal for Class 4 sign for Hancock Sign Company located
at the Northwest corner of Main Street and Allen Heights Drive."
Mr. Del Ferro advised the Board that recent storms have damaged the sign;
however, proponent has advised that they will have it repaired immediately.
MOTION: Upon a motion by Board Member Leverett and a second by Board
Member Cox, the Board voted 4 FOR and 0 OPPOSED to approve the
2nd renewal of Class 4 sign at Allen Heights Shopping Center,
conditional upon the sign being repaired.

Consider 2nd Renewal
Bethany Plaza Shopping Center (Agenda Item VIII)
Chairman Chrisman read the agenda item into the record as follows:
"Consider 2nd renewal for Class 4 sign for Hancock Sign Company located
at the Northeast corner of Bethany and South Highway 5."
Mr. Del Ferro advised the Board that the sign is in good repair.
MOTION: Upon a motion by Board Member Cox and a second by Board Member
Leverett, the Board voted 4 FOR and 0 OPPOSED to approve the 2nd
renewal for Class 4 sign at Bethany Plaza Shopping Center.
Other Business
Mr. Del Ferro advised that one Class 4 permit had been issued during the past
month to Greycliffe Financial on Jupiter Road.
Board Member Cox reviewed the results of the Economic Development Alliance
survey.
Board Member Leverett questioned staff as to the progress in having the Class 4
sign located at Winn Dixie removed. The renewal request for this sign was denied
at a previous meeting. Mr. Del Ferro advised that staff was in contact with the
owner and hoped to have the sign removed shortly.
Discussion was held regarding the review of the Sign Control Ordinance. The
following issues were mentioned:
1. Regulations on banners are possibly too stringent. Members should be
prepared at the next meeting with comments and/or recommendations on this
item.
2. Regulations regarding political signs should be amended to include text that
indicates they are not allowed in medians. Staff should prepare a draft of
proposed text for the next meeting.

MOTION: Upon a motion by Board Member Leverett and a second by Board
Member Cox, the Board voted 4 FOR and 0 OPPOSED to adjourn the
June 13, 1989, meeting of the Allen Sign Control Board at 8:10 p.m.
