PUBLIC ART COMMITTEE
REGULAR MEETING
August 17, 2010 - 6:30 P.M.

With a quorum of the committee members present, the regular meeting of the Public An
Committee was called to order by Chair Bennett at 6:35 pm on Tuesday, August 17, 2010 in the
Parks and Recreation Conference Room at 305 Century Parkway, Allen, Texas.
1. Approve minutes from the May 27, 2010 Regular Meeting.
MOTION: Upon a motion made by committee member Gilbert and seconded by committee
member Carroll, the committee voted four (4) for and none (0) opposed to accept
minutes from the May 27, 2010 regular meeting as presented.
2. Establish Annual Work Plan for 2010-2011.
The members discussed what projects to include in the work plan for 2010-2011 Possible
projects discussed were the Allen Animal Shelter, signage for parks, temporary an at the Blue
House and Walters Crossing Park. The two current projects are the Fire Station #5 and Allen
City Hall projects, which will be ongoing until June of 2011. After discussing the various
projects, the committee tabled the discussion for a future meeting until budget numbers and
research on some of the projects could be done.

Call to Order and Announce a Quorum is Present

3. Discuss possible members for future artist selection panel
The members discussed how to go about recruiting candidates for selection panels. Ideas
discussed were articles in the Allen Image, Allen American or Neighbors Go that would focus on
the 3 projects that the committee has worked on, and giving information about how to become
involved Members then discussed the criteria for candidates as well as compiling a questionnaire
to determine how the candidate's fit the criteria A rough draft of this will be compiled for the
September meeting and staff will gear for the November issue of the Allen Image for the article.
A letter will be compiled to send to those inquiring about being on a panel after the article.
4. Update on Allen Arts Alliance interest in rotating art exhibitions at Blue House
Member Gilbert reported that the Alliance is open to working with the committee and City of
Allen on projects. Chair Bennett will email Member Jones and have her bring research on ideas
for the next meeting.
5. Updates on Fire Station #5 project and Allen City Hall Project
Matt McComb gave an update on the Fire Station #5 project. The facility is moving forward with
construction. He also gave the members a schedule from the artist. The footing may be installed
October. He also informed the members that the sculpture can be applied to LEED. The artist
will use all parts of the ladders and has found a source for the milings. The lighting will be solar,
but a conduit will be tun for backup lighting. Mr. McComb also gave an update on the Allen City
Hall Project. The contract has been approved and the project should be able to send the notice to
proceed to the artist in the next week. This 300 day project puts completion in May of 2011.
Electrical will be out to the area once artist lets staff know the needs.
