1 Call to Order and Announce a Quorum is Present
With a quorum of the committee members present, the regular meeting of the Public Art
Committee was called to order by Vice -Chair Gilbert at 6.37 pm on Tuesday, April 17, 2012 in
the Parks and Recreation Conference Room at 305 Century Parkway, Allen, Texas.
Approve minutes from the March 20, 2012 Regular Meeting.
MOTION. Upon a motion made by committee member Bennett and seconded by committee
member Jones, the committee voted four (4) for and none (0) opposed to accept
minutes from the March 20, 2012 regular meeting as presented
Presentation from Connor Walden for Proposed Art Project
Connor Walden, ajunior at Allen High School currently enrolled in the Phoenix advanced studies
program, presented to the committee a prototype of a shadow art piece he would like to construct
and donate to the City as a temporary an piece This project uses the sun as alight source to
project the work "life" in shadow during a specific time during the year based on the angle of the
sun. All construction and installation expenses will be provided for by the student.
The committee discussed with Connor that the piece would be constructed out of wooden poles
and possibly recycled street signs. Also potential locations for the piece were discussed; the
Allen Senior Center and also the Blue House were considered, but the final decision will
1 determined at a later date.

MOTION: Upon a motion made by committee member Bennett and seconded by committee
member Jones, the committee voted four (4) for and none (0) opposed to accept the
concept of Connor Walden's project and its installation during 2012-2013.
3. Proposed Art Donation
Mrs. Smeby shared with the committee photos of an art piece by Chance Dunlap that Allen
resident, Connie Rodenbaugh would like to purchase and donate to the City to be displayed in the
garden area at the Allen Senior Recreation Center. In addition to the piece, she will purchase and
provide a base for the sculpture. The committee will provide a plaque for the piece
MOTION: Upon a motion made by committee member Carroll and seconded by committee
member Bennett, the committee voted four (4) for and none (0) opposed to accept
the donation of this piece with base and the pending location of the Allen Senior
Recreation Center Garden.
4. Discussion on Future Projects
Member Bennett gave a report on the meeting between Public An Committee members Bennett
and Barry and the president of the Heritage Guild, Ann Gifford, regarding possible future Public
Art projects at the Heritage Village. Ms. Gifford expressed the Heritage Guild would be
interested in installing some type of ornamental fencing on the St. Mary Drive side of the village.
1 Cost and design ideas will be discussed at the next meeting between the two organizations and
will be reported back to the committee following that meeting for discussion.
5. Update of Exchange Parkway Median Project
Mr. McComb shared with the committee that he received three bids for the project on Friday,
April 13, and it is expected that the City Council will award the bid at their May 81" meeting. It is
projected that it will take 120 calendar days to install both the sculptures and the landscaping.
