3. Library Donor Recognition Project
Jane Bennett reported having spoken to Ruth Pringle following the November 18
meeting, and Ruth has indicated her support of the "Charter Names" concept for the
Donor Project at the Allen Public Library
Emile indicated the east wall of the courtyard could make a nice location for hanging a
large screen for video performances in the future and might want to be avoided as a home
for a large object that might be obscured during a presentation. Ann Carroll suggested an
area not be defined to artists who might be interested in the project.
Staff requested that members email ideas for advertising the "call for artists" Ann
indicated that the Dallas Public Art website has a link for `other opportunities" that she
felt would be a good venue for getting exposure for the Allen projects. Staff also
indicated that phone calls had been placed to the City of Plano and City of Frisco
regarding advertising of opportunities for artists.
It was suggested that phone calls be placed to "major donors" to ensure they are
comfortable with the proposed plan of displaying their names in something other than the
"original donor wall that was displayed in the old library facility" Staff indicated
Barbara Buehler would likely be comfortable making those phone calls.
It was determined that advertising for the call for artists would likely take place following
the holidays, and that an email of the opportunity to local artists would be a good idea. It
was also discussed that the email should come from the Committee. The advertising or
posting will probably run for a minimum of 30 days.
4. Fire Station #5 Art Opportunities
Staff reported an opportunity for public art at this facility, to be built on McDermott at
Shallowater on the northwest comer. Staff indicated they were meeting with Jeff Bulla,
the project architect on December 19 and would get more information at that time. Staff
also indicated there was $25,000 available in Public Art Committee budget for this
project. It was reported that Mrs. McDermott would like to see something educational
and that one of the goals for this new facility would be to receive certification for the
environmental aspects incorporated into it. Jane inquired if it would be possible to invite
Mr. Bulla to a Public Art Committee Meeting.
5. Sculpture "Chac the Rain God" Update
Matt McComb provided construction details on the placement of this sculpture indicating
the piers and foundation details. It was suggested that the actual plaque could be placed
outside, with the detailed information placed on the inside of the facility looking out into

the area where sculpture will reside. The question arose as to the angle of placement,
whether or not it should be considered, and if the original artist might be contacted for
involvement in that decision. Dave Baldwin suggested that a round base rather than the
proposed square foundation be erected to accommodate whatever angle the sculpture will
be placed at.
Other Items for Information or Discussion
Emile indicated that the King Tut exhibit scheduled for Dallas might be an opportunity
for exposure to Allen. He also provided a visual of the pyramid built in Hyde Park New
York City as a point of interest to the Committee.
