1. Call to Order and Announce a Quorum is Present
With a quorum of the committee members present, the regular meeting of the Public Art
Committee was called to order by Chair Bennett at 6.35 pm on Tuesday, June 16, 2009 in the
Parks and Recreation Conference Room at 301 Century Parkway, Allen, Texas
2. Approve Minutes from the May 19, 2009 Regular Meeting
MOTION: Upon a motion made by committee member Carriere and a second by committee
member Gilbert, the committee voted four (4) and none (0) opposed to accept the
minutes from May 19, 2009 Regular Meeting as presented.
3. Staff Update, Library Sculpture
Matt McComb presented a power point on the sculpture and where the artist currently is in the
creation process. Staff and the artist are currently waiting on the Library for a placement date.
Emile Carriere, will keep the committee up to date on the plans for a dedication event.
4. City Hall Project - Discussion of Artists for Public Art Piece at Allen City Hall
Matt McComb presented the original architect design for the area in front of Allen City Hall
where the project would be placed. Members discussed what type of piece they would like to
include, how the addition of seating and landscaping might be beneficial, as was planned in the

original design, and the budget for the project. Also discussed was the possibility of including
kinetic and or historic aspects and staying within the theme already established by the existing
landscaping and hardscape elements of the Allen Civic Plaza. The committee determined more
research was needed prior to sending out a call to artist. For a future meeting, the committee
asked staff to look into all elements of the project that would be an expense to the project,
including lighting, artist speaking fees, and other items besides the piece itself.
5. Chac Sculpture- Discussion of placement for "Chac' sculpture
Matt McComb presented the revised footing drawing for the sculpture. The new design will save
a considerable amount of money. The committee requested staff to begin the bid process for the
foundation and retained the placement location as the Allen Senior Center.
6. Set Next Regular Meeting of this Committee - The next regular meeting of this committee will
be held on Tuesday, July 21 at 6:30 PM.
7. Adjourn
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:18 p.m.
