Call to Order
With a quorum of the Board members present, the Keep Allen Beautiful Regular Meering was called
to order by Chair Buckley at 7'12 p.m. on Tuesday, January 15, 2002, in the Council Chambers
Conference Room at City Hall, One Allen Civic Plaza, Allen, Texas.
2. Introduction of Guests
Susan Campbell, Allen Parks and Recreation Urban Forester was present.
3. Aunrove the Minutes of the December 18.2001 Reeular Meetin¢
MOTION: Upon a motion made by Board member Sheila Curtis and a second by Board member Wendy
Gardner, the Board voted six (6) for and none (0) opposed to approve the Minutes of the
December 18, 2001, Regular Meeting. The motion carred.
4. Items of Interest to the Board
• Financial report/budget. Steve Massey reported that there is $5965.25 in the KAB account.
Members were informed that there is money budgeted for them to attend the Keep Texas
Beautiful convention in San Antonio.
• Parks and Recreation Projects Update, Susan Campbell. Liberty Gardens Celebration and
Dedication is scheduled for February 23, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. KAB is requested to be on-site at
9:00 a.m
• Ms. Campbell gave a presentation on the Liberty Gardens Celebration project plans and explained
KAB's participation in the event. Tree Guides have been purchased by KAB to be handed out the
day of the event.
• Ms. Campbell reported that the Tree City application has been accepted and forwarded to Keep
Texas Beautiful
• Ms. Campbell reported that the Arbor Day poster contest was underway Several schools had
requested that she give presentations to the students about the importance of trees. Requested that
the KAB board help judge the entries at the next meeting. Pictures will be taken of the entries
and the judging.

• 2002 Trash-Off/Spring Event. Members will email their choice of April 20" or 27' A 4 x 10
banner with "Keep Allen Beautiful Welcomes You to the Great American Trash Off' will be
ordered for display at the entrance of Raintree Circle.
• Discussion included participants to invite. Goodwill, ACO, Cyclone Aluminum, Nike, Texas
Toilets and CWD were decided upon.
• Discussion of having breakfast (doughnuts) and a hot dog lunch for workers, with canopies for
shade, drinks, and water available. Karen Hermann of Community Services has volunteered to
take this project.
• Discussion of invitation to Robert Medigovich to come to the next KAB meeting to finalize plans.
• Discussion of invitation to Cyclone Aluminum for collection of computers and computer
components to be recycled.
• Discussion of black and white fliers to be marled in Utility Bills in March and an Allen Amencan
article to promote the event.
• Discussion of asking Allen ISD schools to display the event date and time on their marquees.
• HHW Pilot Project. HBW begins February 1; pick up starts on February 5, 2002. Utility billing

HHW Project School Art Contest/Awards. HHW Slogan/Mascot and Logo contest in the
Allen ISD is underway with most schools participating. The KAB board will award cash prizes
to the winners at a City Council meeting. KAB will judge entries during the monthly meeting
after they are received.
•
Mary Tittle volunteered to prepare a certificate for KAB to present for various KAB projects.
Samples of wording and appearance were discussed. Heavyweight cotton paper will be ordered
for certificate printing.
•
Greenbelt/Watershed Litter Collection, Steve Massey asked that the board consider a summer
project of cleaning up the watersheds/greenbelts in Allen. Suggestion made that it be a
cooperative effort with the Parks and Recreation Department.
•
Website and Hotline. The phone hotline is in the City's messaging system The City website
also has KAB information. The KAB website is linked to the City's information website.
Discussion postponed until the February meeting.
