1. Call to Order and Announce a Quorum is Present
With a quorum present, Keep Allen Beautiful Regular Meeting was called to order by
Chair, Brian Casstevens at 6:36 PM on Tuesday, May 18, 2004 in the First Floor
Council Conference Room at City Hall, 305 Century Parkway, One Allen Civic Plaza,
Allen, Texas
2. Introduction of Guests
New City employee and guest, Erin Chastain -Harris, Community Services Education
Specialist, was introduced to the Board.
3. Financial Report/Budget
Steve Massey presented the current financial report.
4. Parks and Recreation Update
Susan Campbell presented the final costs, expenses and recommendations for the
Trees for Allen program. 693 trees were sold/donated/give away during this program
Discussion of procedures to facilitate easier delivery of tress and Tree Guides next
year; tree seedling purchase, tree planting at Celebration Park in the fall during Allen
Recycles Day.
MOTION: Motion made by Carol Hohmann to raise the price charged for trees sold in the
Trees for Allen program to $35 per tree as recommended by Susan Campbell, Urban Forester.
Motion was seconded by Pat Buckley with all Board members in favor.
5. KAB Events
• Great American Trash Off AAR: Final results were 484 vehicles, 67,910
pounds of litter/debris; 25,080 pounds of clothing, household goods, furniture,
shoes recycled; 30,380 pounds of metal recycled; 2,580 pounds of cardboard
recycled; 8,800 pounds of yardwaste composted.

• Honor Eagle Scouts — May 25
Discussion of presentation of certificates and carabineers to honor scouts who have
assisted KAB with projects and beautification during the year
• KTB Annual Conference — June 15 — 18
Discussion of travel, arrival, dress, presentations, donated basket and what to
expect.
• Educator's Reception — September 10
Discussion of ideas to peak interest of the educator's within the community. Parks
and Recreation, Fire Department, Police Department, and CWD will be on hand to
present their educational programs.
• Allen Recycles Day — November 6
Two entries were left out of the KAB events:
• Corporate Challenge on June 3, 200. The theme is "Clean It Like You Mean
IC,
• USA Celebration on June 26, 2004.
MOTION: Motion made by John Kelley to spend up to $750 to purchase table space at the
USA Celebration. Motion was seconded by Carol Hohmann with all Board members in
favor.
6. Old Business
• Memberships
Discussion of starting up a membership drive, recruiting members, membership
benefits and strategically planning what to do with members.
7. Items of Interest to the Board
• Pat Buckley presented an opportunity for KAB to advertise in the Allen Eagle
Touchdown Club's football program ads
MOTION: Motion made by Ron Wheless to put a quarter page advertisement in the Eagle
Football Program at a cost of $120. Motion was seconded by Carol Hohmann with all Board
members in favor.
• The Texas Forest Service grant that funds the Trees for Allen program had to
be redone to meet state requirements. KAB is asked to adopt a resolution to accept the
grant.
MOTION: Motion made by Pat Buckley to adopt the resolution to accept the Texas Forest
Service grant. Motion was seconded by Carol Hohmann with all Board members in favor.
MOTION: Motion made by Ron Wheless to cancel the June 15t' regular meeting in order for
the Board to attend the Keep Texas Beautiful Convention. Motion was seconded by Pat
Buckley with all in favor.
8. Adlourn
The regular session of the Keep Allen Beautiful Board was adjourned at 8.40 PM on
Tuesday, May 18, 2004.
