1. Call to Order and Announce a Quorum is Present
With a quorum present, Keep Allen Beautiful Regular Meeting was called to order by
Chair Kerry Craven at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday, March 17, 2009, in the Council
Conference Room at City Hall, 305 Century Parkway, Allen, Texas.
2. Introduction of Guests
Seventh grade Boy Scouts from Troop 259 were present with their Scoutmaster to fulfill
badge requirements.
3. Approve minutes of February 17, 2009
No minutes were available for approval.
4. Receive Financial Report/Budget Update
Ms. Kliewer reported a total KAB account balance of $19,626.78 and City funds of
$6,013.63.
5. Receive reports from Strategic Planning initiatives

1. Call to Order and Announce a Quorum is Present
With a quorum present, Keep Allen Beautiful Regular Meeting was called to order by
Chair Kerry Craven at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday, March 17, 2009, in the Council
Conference Room at City Hall, 305 Century Parkway, Allen, Texas.
2. Introduction of Guests

4. Receive Financial Report/Budget Update
Ms. Kliewer reported a total KAB account balance of $19,626.78 and City funds of
$6,013.63.
5. Receive reports from Strategic Planning initiatives

a. Communication
Ms. Craven reported that KAB had provided environmental tips to the City of Allen email
newspaper for a period up to August 2009
Mr Armstrong is working with Mark Kaufman to tape "A Nurtured World," which will be
held on April 14 from 7-9 pm at the Library Civic Auditorium.
b. Environmental Center
Ms. Buckley reported on a display at UNT showing how various materials found in a fast
food meal got to the consumer. Ms Buckley submitted the report for KAB's consideration of
such a display at the future Environmental Center.
c. Environmental Education in AISD
Ms. Gonzales reported on the H.O.P.E. (Help Our Planet Earth) presentation made by the
hopeforthebestcampaign.com team promoting the use of reusable bags instead of plastic
Ms. Gonzales also reported on Kid's Club presentations.
Parks and Recreation Liaison
Ms. Pruitt reported on the Parks & Recreation Board meeting and about the availability and
possible use of the Park's Foundation Tool Trailer. Discussion of promotion of Zero Waste
event promotion to Parks Department
6. Discussion of NCTCOG MFC and Reuse -A -Bae Grants and educational opportunities
Ms. Kliewer reported on the progress of the Multi -Family Complex Recycling Education
grant. Ms. Gonzales reported that the three Krogers Grocers, Market Street and WalMart are
on -board with handing out Reuse a Bags at their place of business Discussion included date
of hand-out promotion, method of dispersal and the reactions of stores and residents.
7. Receive Update on KAB Events and Projects
a. Trees for Allen & Arbor Day- AAR
The event was well received, very organized with good interactions with participants.
MOTION: Ms. Gonzales made a motion to pay for Arbor Day t -shirts through the KAB American
National Bank account if needed. Ms. Pruitt seconded the motion with all in favor.
MOTION: Ms. Buckley made a motion to fund the completion of irrigation for the Arbor Day park
trees currently not on the irrigation plan with funding through the KAB American National Bank
account. Ms. Gonzales seconded the motion with all in favor.
b. North Texas Leadership Conference — AAR
Ms. Gonzales reported that the conference this year was good. Discussion of the merits
of this conference and last year's.
c. Seeding a Healthy Communip•
Discussion of events taking place at this event set for April 4 at Watters Creek. Booths
provided by Watters Creek. Event will start at 8am with a waterway cleanup and booths
open from 9:30am — 3pm.

d. A Nurtured World
Discussion of distribution of flyers to various locations to advertise the event. Ms.
Buckley will contact Tim Carroll about sending information to the AISD staff.
Information suggested to be sent to Sandi Osborn for distribution in AISD teacher
newsletter, Jane Bennett, Friends of the Library, and Lori Smeby of A.H.A. PAMRO
will put information in Allen Employee Newsletter and Denise Webre will list in on
Allen Online.
e. Live Green Expo
KAB volunteers needed from 9am — 5pm on April 18. Parking passes will be distributed
prior to the event.
f. Great American Cleanup
Ms. Gonzales reported that WalMart wanted to again be a part of this event. This event
will enter from Watters Road this year. KAB volunteers will be needed from 7-45am to
1.30pm.
g. KTB Youth Awards Due — April 28
Trent Armstrong and Bev Pruitt volunteered to write KAB's youth submissions to KTB
8. Discussion of Governor's Community Achievement Award and Keep Texas Beautiful

The regular session of the Keep Allen Beautiful Board was adjourned at 8:00 p.m. on
Tuesday, March 17, 2009
