1. Call to Order and Announce a Quorum is Present
With a quorum present, Keep Allen Beautiful Regular Meeting was called to
order by Chair Kerry Craven at 6:35 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19, 2009, in the
Council Conference Room at City Hall, 305 Century Parkway, Allen, Texas.
2. ADDroye minutes of February 16, 2009 and April 17, 2009
MOTION: Stacy Gonzales made a motion to approve the April 17, 2009 minutes as
presented. Bev Pruitt seconded the motion, with all in favor. February 16, 2009 minutes
were not available.
3. Undate from Parks Dent. on Horticulture and Environmental Programs
Denise Moore, City Forester, reported on the seasonal color for City beds,
Summer Sounds, and plants at Glendover Park; possible Arbor Day at Glendover Park to
revive the older park area Tree Farm is doing well; 8-10 Trees for Allen oak trees that
were stressed upon delivery were switched out for residents, currently considering areas
to be replanted with wildflowers this fall; update on the pond at Bethany Lakes Park.

4. Receive update on KAB Events and Projects
a. Great American Cleanup —AAR. Discussion of changes to the flyer to make
the two areas of activity more distinct Overall it elicited a good response
from residents.
b. Reuse a Bag Giveway — AAR. Randy Boys reported that Scouts were very
helpful and customers were receptive; overall, it was very well received. A
banner announcing the program would have been helpful as younger scouts
didn't communicate the reason for the campaign; perhaps a poster of facts to
educate the scouts and residents would have been helpful. The date of the
recount of customers bringing bags into the establishments is to be
determined.
c. KAB & C WD Report to Council — AAR. both reports meshed programs
together well; Stacy did the KAB presentation.
d AISD PTA Environmental Chair's Luncheon — AAR. KAB members and City
Staff greeted PTA Environmental Chairs attending the luncheon The theme
was "Busy Bees " PTA Environmental Chairs received a plant and a goodie
5 Receive Financial Report/Budget Update
Donna Kliewer reported $22.013.05 in the American National Bank account and $4,477 47
in the City beautification account.

KTB Conference: Four people are currently registered to attend. Kerry
announced that one Fmisar employee was attending the conference, with five
Finisar representatives attending the award ceremony

USA Celebration: Discussion of past distribution of recycling containers and
plans for present distribution and public education.
g.
Cyclone Electronics Collection at City Hall Scheduled for August 8 at City
Hall.

Educator Expo: To be held at the AISD Administration Building on Bethany
on September 17 More attendance expected due to the venue. KAB
members will begin soliciting door prize donations

Allen Recycles Day Scheduled for November 7 at City Hall

Rotary Holiday Parade .Annual Recycled Art Contest winners and families
will again be invited to participate with KAB and C WD

Seeding a I lealthy Community The next event date is April 10, 2010.
Discussion of venue, programs and next EEC meeting.

A Nurtured World Discussion of rescheduling a date; preference was to wait
until A I I.A. was engaged and able to help promote this program to the
community

Donna Kliewer reported $22.013.05 in the American National Bank account and $4,477 47
in the City beautification account.
6. Receive Reports from Strategic Planning initiatives
a Communication
Amanda Mottle reported that KTB is following KAB activities and eco -tips on Twitter.
b Environmental Center: Donna Kliewer reported on a recent trip to the Audubon Center in
Dallas and the items that would work well in an Allen environmental center.
c. Environmental Education in AISD Update on ongoing efforts to promote environmental
education by the Education Specialists.
d. Parks and Recreation Liaison
Bev Pruitt reported on the top eight CDC projects, centralized irrigation control, Watters
Crossing Park, trail development, Allen USA, Bethany Lakes fishing pier rebuild, golf course
renovation/construction, and youth center membership.
7 Discussion of Keep Texas Beautiful Youth Awards
Discussion of the progress of youth and youth group written summaries Bev Pruitt and
Trent Armstrong will do the written portion with help completing the scrapbooks
8. Adjourn
The regular session of the Keep Allen Beautiful Board was adjourned at 8:12 p.m. on
Tuesday, May 19, 2009
