KEEP ALLEN BEAUTIFUL BOARD
REGULAR MEETING
APRIL 15, 2008 - 6:30 P.M.

1. Call to Order and Announce a Quorum is Present
With a quorum present, Keep Allen Beautiful Regular Meeting was called to order by
Chair Pat Buckley at 6:45pm on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 in the Council Conference
Room at City Hall, 305 Century Parkway, Allen, Texas.
2. Public Recognition/Citizens Comments/Introduction of Guests
No guests were present.
3. Presentation of Grant Requests: Sonne Ferguson
Donna Kliewer presented a $250 grant request from Synne Ferguson of Aurora
Images Art Gallery to fund ajuried art exhibit titled "The Future of Transportation."
This exhibit would feature all aspects of transportation, including environmental
impacts such as air quality and litter
MOTION: Kerry Craven made a motion to grant $250 for the juried art exhibit.
Trent Armstrong seconded the motion with all in favor.
3. Update by Parks and Recreation on Various and Upcoming Events
Susan sent an update on the wildflower areas in Allen that are beginning to bloom.
4. Approve minutes of March 18, 2008
IMarch minutes were not available.
5. Receive Financial Report/Budget
Financial updates were not available.
8. Update on KAB Events
•
SmartScapes seminar (Ms. Green Thumb), AAR About 17 Seniors took part
in the presentation of water in the landscape, native and adapted plants, and
suitable trees for the North Texas landscape
•
Green Living Expo in Plano AAR Expo was well worth attending — KAB will
be represented and encouraged to volunteer next year
•
Reuse a Shoe Contest, March 25 — April 18
o Council recognition for winners will be scheduled after the GAC
•
Great American Cleanup (GAC), April 26, 8 — 1pm, Bossy Boots Circle
Kerry Craven and Beverly Pruitt volunteered to work at City Hall with Brinks
Document Shred. Collin county Court teens will assist.

KAB report to Council — May 13, 6:30pm, Council Conference Room
•
CWD report to Council — May 13, 7pm, Council Chambers
•
KTB Youth Awards Due — May 13. Trent Armstrong volunteered to write
award for Greg House, Eagle Scout.
•
Eagle Scout Recognition — May 13, 7pm, Council Chambers
•
KTB Conference, June 24-27, Irving
•
Educator's Expo — Sept 25, 4:30 — 6:00pm
•
Landscape Series — KAB sponsor a three part series covering different aspects
of landscaping
7. GCAA, Individual and Youth Awards
Kerry will send last year's outline to volunteer writers. Allen received 3rd place
for the GCAA. Tom Wylie (litter law) received Y` in his category, Montgomery
Farm (local business) received 2"d, and Leadership Allen (civic organization) tied
for 3`d
8. Environmental Center
Discussion of River Legacy Park's outdoor teaming center, compost demonstration
and teaching areas.
10. Items of Interest to the Board
• USA Celebration Zero Waste event
• Reusable Bags purchase and giveaway
• Discussion of Strategic Planning session and date
• Suggestion that KAB members talk to electorates to promote KAB

• MOTION: Trent Armstrong made a motion to purchase "Planet Earth" to be
donated to the Allen Public Library with an additional set to be purchased for
KAB's lending library Stacy Gonzales seconded the motion with all in favor.
• Discussion of potential KAB PodCast and what it is.
11. Adjourn
The regular session of the Keep Allen Beautiful Board was adjourned at 8:45pm on
Tuesday, April 15, 2008.
