Spay/Neuter Equipment-Proeress
Vikki Francis advised she had met with TCAP along with D.C. Flores, Lt. Deggs and it had been
decided to bring them in to do the spay/neuters for the adoptable animals until the money could be
found to purchase all need equipment. TCAP would also do vaccinations for the adoptable animals
and they was going to be a low cost vaccination clinic at the shelter on Saturday, June 23, 2012.
Dr. Coffman advised he would have Tyler help us connect with their representative from Butler to get
costs on the oxygen concentrator and the wet table.
Heartworm and Feline Leukemia testing were brought up again and Dr. Coffman explained the
importance of testing dogs and cats before they go up for adoption so it would make it easier on the
family adopting knowing if the animals were positive or not. Dr. Coffman recommended doing the
Feline Leukemia and the HIV testing on cats and advised the cost was minimal and he would sell the
testing kits to the shelter at cost.
Discussion
At last meeting Dawn Blue inquired about the committee doing some type of fundraising to help
detour the costs for the testing and any equipment. Vikki Francis advised per the City Secretary that
in reviewing the ordinance establishing the board, there are no provisions for fundraising. The
ordnance outlines the purpose as "An Animal Shelter Advisory Committee is hereby created to assist the
city and its animal control unit in compliance with state regulations concerning the operation of animal
shelters. The committee shall be advisory in nature and shall not have any responsibility or authority over
any board, commission, public official or employee of the city " Therefore, the board should not organize
or serve in a fundraising capacity
