Call to Order and Announce a Quorum is Present
With a quorum present, the Keep Allen Beautiful Regular Meeting was called to order by Chair Mark
Schallhorn at 6:38 p.m. on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 in the Admin Building Conference Room at the Municipal
Service Center, 900 S Greenville Ave, Allen, TX.
1. Tour of the Allen Chemical Reuse Center
All present board members were given the history and statistical breakdown of the HHW Curbside Collection
program, as well as the Reuse Center and its participation statistics.
2. Update from Parks Department on Horticulture and Environmental Programs
On behalf of Jesse Simmons, Casey Bennett shared about the new tree mitigation program for developers
working in the City of Allen. The program has been a great success thus far and very popular with the
development community.
3. Approve Minutes of April 15, 2014 Meeting
A motion to approve April 15 minutes was made by Susan Ponder; seconded by Stacy Gonzales, with all in
favor
4. Receive Financial Report/Budget Update
Donna Kliewer reported $12,865.77 unencumbered in the City account; $29,144.98 in the American
National Bank account. A motion to approve the financials was made by Kelly McDonald; seconded by
Susan Ponder, with all in favor
S. Receive Update on KAB Events and Projects
• Reuse -a -Shoe Contest @ AISD — March 31 to April 18—After Action Report
Maya Bullock won the individual award for the 7`" year in a row. Mrs. Taylor's class won the
classroom award, helping Vaughan Elementary win the school award for the first time. A grand total
of 3,369 pairs of shoes were collected throughout this contest.
• DEA Drug Collection — April 26— After Action Report
A grand total of 1,340 pounds of medication, including 325 pounds of sharps was collected in four
hours.

• Great American Cleanup -Maya -After Action Report
Throughout the day 1,366 residents from the community were in attendance with 1,064 at City Hall
and 302 at Allen Commerce Parkway. Over 94,000 lbs of materials were collected, with `20% being
trash, -64% being recycled or composted, and "16% being donated to community groups.
Additionally, 42 youth and 91 adults volunteered 718.25 hours to support the event. Ideas on future
plans for this event were discussed as well.
• 2014-2015 Waste Works Applications Due - May 16
A total of seventeen applications were received. KAB Board Members discussed the possibility of
increasing the amount of the award grant to $200 with matching funds provided by CWD.
• KTB Conference - lune 23-25 (Austin)
Three KAB Board Members and three staff are currently slated to attend this year's conference. PTA
Environmental Chair, Sue Kacines, won first place volunteer of the year in her category and will be
recognized at this year's conference. AHS Volunteer Cassidy Weigold received an Honorable
Mention for her service with KAB, but she will not be in attendance at the event.
• Allen USA -June 28
KAB is preparing an educational booth with multiple volunteers patrolling the food court for litter
and to help participants of the event with their recycling/compost questions. Leads are coming in
for groups to take responsibility for the litter pickup and education efforts.
• Educator Expo -September 30
Included in the list of new exhibitors attend the event at the Blackland Prairie Raptor Center, the
Heard Museum, In -Sync Exotics, Jon Bunker Sands Wetlands and the Perot Museum. Departments
are currently submitting updates to their submissions for the Expo Booklet.
• Recycled Art Contest -October 1 through October 29
This contest occurs in select AISD schools based on which teachers want to participate. It is a K-12
contest.
• Arbor Day -October 25
The Parks & Recreation Department is still in the process of selecting the location for this year's
event.
• Allen Recycles Day/Recycled Art Contest Awards Presentation - November 8
There is no update at this time.
• Rotary Holiday Parade - December 6
There is no update at this time.
