COUNCIL CONFERENCE ROOM 305 CENTURY PARKWAY ALLEN, TX 75013 Present Stacy Gonzalez Michelle Ross Kelley Bayne Beverly Pruitt Absent Mardy Brown Mark Schallhorn Kerry Craven Staff Present Donna Kliewer, Waste Services Manager Casey Bennett, Education Specialist Call to Order and Announce a Quorum is Present With a quorum present, the Keep Allen Beautiful Regular Meeting was called to order by Chair Stacy Gonzales at 6:36 p.m. on Tuesday, April 17, 2012 in the Council Conference Room at City Hall, 305 Century Parkway, Allen, TX. 1. Approve Minutes of March 20, 2012 Meetings A motion to approve March 20 minutes was made by Beverly Pruitt; seconded by Michelle Ross, with all in favor. 2. Update from Parks Department on Horticulture and Environmental Programs Jesse Simmons not present at this month's meeting. 3. Receive Financial Report/Budget Update Donna Kliewer reported $14,021.60 unencumbered in the City account; $14,945.70 in the American National Bank account. 4. Receive Update on KAB Events and Projects • Egg-cellent Family Adventure, March 31,Sam —12pm— After Action Report Mardy Brown, Michelle Ross, Mark Schallhorn, and Beverly Pruitt participated at the KAB table 328 children were educated using the "Spinner Game' at the event. • Twin Creeks Village Think Green Event — March 31, 1-4pm— After Action Report Mark Schallhorn assisted City Support Staff at the event. 130+ people were educated at the event. • Earthfest 2012— After Action Report Mark Schallhorn, Kelley Bayne, Michelle Ross, Mardy Brown, Kerry Craven and her parents assisted at various times at the KAB booth, educating 1300+ youth and adults. Student volunteers from the Allen High School assisted at the event with the Texas A&M Agril-ife Extension hands-on stream trailer exhibit. Casey Bennett oversaw the demonstrations using the trailer. 583 people were educated through use of the stream trailer • Great American Cleanup Kerry Craven and Marcy Brown have agreed to support the activities occurring at City Hall. All other Board members will be supporting the activities at Watters Road and Bossy Boots Drive. WalMart and Starbucks have volunteered to provide donations of foodstuffs this year All vendors are currently confirmed to attend and are eagerly awaiting the event. • Allen USA KAB will be coordinating volunteers and supporting the Parks and Recreation Department by having a booth for educating the attendees, as well as helping with the waste management during the event. • Educator EXPO The Educator EXPO will be held at the Allen Senior Recreation Center for educators in Allen to sample the free programs offered by the City and County. • Arbor Day A date for Arbor Day is still TBD. Jesse Simmons, City Forester, indicated that November is being considered for Arbor Day. The Trees for Allen tree program may be held in conjunction with Arbor Day. • Allen Recycles Day Will be held on November P, 2012 at City Hall. 5. Receive Reports from Strategic Planning Initiatives a) Communication Daily Green Tips are being sent every day. Twitter updates are occurring daily. b) Environmental Center/Molson Farm No updates. c) Environmental Education in AISD The Reuse -a -Shoe campaign finished with just under 4,000 shoes collected by AISD. Board voted to approve use of funds by Allen High School for the Healthy Habitats Grant project. d) Parks and Recreation Liaison No updates. e) Scout/Service Organization Liaison 1 Adjourn No updates.
