HomeMy WebLinkAboutMin - Keep Allen Beautiful Board - 2012 - 05/15 - RegularCall to Order and Announce a Quorum is Present With a quorum present, the Keep Allen Beautiful Regular Meeting was called to order by Chair Stacy Gonzales at 6:32 p.m. on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 in the Council Conference Room at City Hall, 305 Century Parkway, Allen, TX. ,1. Approve Minutes of March 20, 2012 Meetings A motion to approve April 17 minutes with amendment was made by Beverly Pruitt; seconded by Michelle Ross, with all in favor 2. Update from Parks Department on Horticulture and Environmental Programs Jesse Simmons updated that —150 trees (mostly oak) were planted at Celebration Park. Trees have been spaced out so that they can establish and grow to full size in the future. Mardy Brown commented that grass is dying and erosion is occurring in Ford Park. Jesse to look into the issue. 3. Receive Financial Report/Budget Update Casey Bennett reported $12,469.35 unencumbered in the City account; $12,074.70 in the American National Bank account. 4. Receive Update on KAB Events and Projects • Great American Cleanup— After Action Report Keep Allen Beautiful counted 1,583 vehicles attended the event, 979 at Watters/Bossy Boots and 604 at City Hall. Approximately 52,000 lbs of trash was collected and approximately 60,000 of materials were reused or recycled. This is a 54% rate of reuse and recycling for this event! • Council Presentation — May 8— After Action Report CWD made a presentation to City Council and praised the efforts of Keep Allen Beautiful. Mike Barringer also gave a report about how wonderful it was to work with Keep Allen Beautiful. 1 • KTB Conference—June 25-28 Board members Stacy Gonzales, Beverly Pruitt, Mark Schallhorn and Mardy Brown will be attending the conference and will be on -hand for the dinner to accept the Governor's Community Achievement Award on Wednesday night. Beverly Pruitt suggested reaching out to the Young Men's Service League for additional volunteers. • Educator EXPO The Educator EXPO will be held at the Allen Senior Recreation Center for educators in Allen to sample the free programs offered by the City and County. KAB Board to find five door prizes each for this event. • Arbor Day A date for Arbor Day is still TBD. Jesse Simmons, City Forester, indicated that the Trees for Allen tree program may be held in conjunction with Arbor Day. The date should be solidified by the June meeting. • Allen Recycles Day Will be held on November 3i°, 2012 at City Hall. • Rotary Holiday Parade — December 2 This event may be the new place where Arbor Day poster contest winners are recognized. 5. Discuss Strategic Plan All Board members agreed to meet and set a date of Wednesday, October 17t', 2012 from gam —12pm for the next strategic planning session. 6. Receive Reports from Strategic Planning Initiatives a) Communication Daily Green Tips are being sent every day. Twitter updates are occurring on a regular basis. b) Environmental Center/Molson Farm No updates. c) Environmental Education in AISD AISD is implementing more recycling at the schools and is starting to utilize virtual tools that limit the need for paper from the students. d) Parks and Recreation Liaison Parks Board meeting was cancelled. Mardy and Kelley to attend the next meeting. e) Scout/Service Organization Liaison Kyle Webre wins the KTB Award for Scout of the Year!
