11. Approve Minutes of lune 19, 2012 Meeting
No action taken.
2. Update from Parks Department on Horticulture and Environmental Programs
Based on the latest news from the Parks and Recreation Department, Arbor Day will be held on November 3 r KAB will
be unable to support this event, per last month's meeting.
3. Receive Financial Report/Budget Update
Donna Kliewer reported $5,651.45 unencumbered in the City account; $12,052 00 in the American National Bank
account.
4. Receive Update on KAB Events and Projects
• KTB Conference — June 25-28— After Action Report
Board members Stacy Gonzales and Mark Schallhorn shared their feeling about attending the conference and
the dinner to accept the Governor's Community Achievement Award (GCAA) on Wednesday night. Mark
received good practical training and enjoyed himself. Stacy attended the GCAA dinner for the first time and was
blown away by the community support. Joey Herald was also there to support the GCAA and was impressed by
how big an award it was that Allen was able to win.
• Allen USA — June 30— After Action Report
All board members felt the event was a great success: 873 participants were educated at the booth, 90.19% of
all was generated was diverted from the landfill, totaling 4.2 tons of materials that escaped the landfill. More
volunteers will be needed for next year's event.
• Educator EXPO—September 20
The Educator EXPO will be held at the Allen Senior Recreation Center for educators in Allen to sample the free
programs offered by the City and County. KAB Board to find five door prizes each for this event. KAB Chair Stacy
Gonzales gave tips on how to seek donations from local businesses.

• Strategic Planning Session—October 17-8am to 12pm
Jim from Finisar has offered to help mediate the strategic planning session at the Fin isar offices.
• Allen Recycles Day
Will be held on November 3r°, 2012 at City Hall.
• Arbor Day— November 3(Parks)
The date for Arbor Day is November 3`" Jesse Simmons, City Forester, indicated that the Trees for Allen tree
program will be held in conjunction with Arbor Day. Keep Allen Beautiful cannot support the event on this date.
• Rotary Holiday Parade — December 2
This event may be the new place where Arbor Day poster contest winners are recognized.
• Arbor Day Poster Contest— Due December 14
This contest has been dropped by the State and Federal levels due to funding constraints. The City will continue
the contest for 5" grade ONLY this year.
• Other Reports
o August 11—Quarterly E -Cycling event will be held by Cyclone Aluminum and Steel.
o August 1S— CWD will rollout their new CNG fleet; City Solid Waste staff to support a recycled art
exhibition at summer school on August 3.

Daily Green Tips are being sent every day. Twitter updates are occurring on a regular basis.
b) Environmental Center/Molson Farm
No updates.
c) Environmental Education in AISD
No updates.
d) Parks and Recreation Liaison
1 Parks Department was very complimentary about the Allen USA Celebration this year.
e) Scout/Service Organization Liaison
Urban Forester Jesse Simmons working with 2 prospective Eagle Scouts on projects at the Allen Cemetery and
possibly Molson Farm.
