1 Call to Order and Announce a Quorum is Present
With a quorum present, the Keep Allen Beautiful Regular Meeting was called to order by Vice -Chair Stacy
Gonzales at 6:37 p.m. on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 in the Council Conference Room at City Hall, 305 Century
Parkway, Allen, TX.
1. Approve Minutes of March 15, 2011 Meeting
MOTION: Mark Schallhom made a motion to approve the March 15, 2011 minutes as presented. The
motion was seconded by John Ogrizovich and carried with all in favor.
2. Update from Parks Dept. on Horticulture and Environmental Programs
An emailed report from Jerry Straka, including information on relocation of crepe myrtles, fallen trees
due to high winds, and preparations for summer color was reviewed and discussed.
3. Receive Update on KAB Events and Projects
a. Sustainable Landscape Series — January through May
Amanda Mattle reported that "Urban Tree Care" on April 9 had 17 attendees. The next class,
"Rain Water Harvesting & Rain Barrel Building" is scheduled for April 30.
b. Litter Index —AAR
Amanda Mattle reported that the 2011 Litter Index Score is 1.62 out of 4, with 4 being the most
��rn+ littered and I being the least littered This year, Optional Indices, including Illegal Signs, Graffiti,
Abandoned/Junk Vehicles, and Outside Storage were also scored on the same scale, with a result
of117
c. AISD 100 Year Birthday Party Celebration — AAR
Keep Allen Beautiful was the only City entity present and had 353 visitors at the table.
d. EarthFest —AAR
The event began with a creek cleanup. The KAB table had 289 visitors and more than 600 visitors

This will be the third quarterly electronics collection for the year, usually held at City Hall.
k. Educator Expo — September 22
This is KAB's annual event for educators to showcase education resources available to them
through the City
I. Allen Recycles Day — November 5
This event is usually held on the first Saturday in November Activities of the day were discussed.
4. Receive Financial Report/Budget Update
Donna Kliewer reported $21,458.65 to the American National Bank account and $15,337 72 in the City
KAB account
5. Receive Reports from Strategic Planning Initiatives
a. Communication
Nothing new to report.
b. Environmental Center
Nothing new to report.
c. Environmental Education in AISD
Amanda Mantle presented a virtual MRF tour to three Kindergarten classes at Reed Elementary
on Monday, April 18. She will visit Kerr Elementary on Wednesday, April 20, with Andrea
Smith. They will present the Incredible Water Journey and the Water Pollution Enviroscape,
respectively
d. Parks and Recreation Liaison
Nothing new to report.
e. Scout/Service Organization Liaison
Nothing new to report.

Eggcellent Family Adventure —AAR
KAB's table saw 761 visitors at this event. The event was well -attended overall.

Great American Cleanup — April 30
Trees will be given away at the exit to the event again this year. Collin County Constables will
participate as to years past. Allen Police Department will conduct a medication collection at City
Hall. Activities of the day were discussed.
g.
KTB Youth & Educator Awards — May 10
Progress on the application was discussed.
h.
KTB Conference (Austin) —June 20-23
This year's conference will be held at the same location as last year's. Attendance was discussed.
i.
Allen USA — June 25
This Parks and Recreation Department event is held at Celebration Park KAB works with Parks
to make this a zero -waste event. Zero -waste measures were discussed.
