COUNCIL CONFERENCE ROOM 305 CENTURY PARKWAY ALLEN, TX 75013 Present Carolyn Winkler John Ogrizovich Stacy Gonzales Mardy Brown Beverly Pruitt Kerry Craven Mark Schallhorn Staff Present Donna Kliewer, Waste Services Manager Amanda Mattle, Waste Services Education Specialist Call to order and announce a quorum is Present With a quorum present, the Keep Allen Beautiful Regular Meeting was called to order by Chair Stacy Gonzales at 6:33 p.m. on Tuesday, May 18, 2010, in the Council Conference Room at City Hall, 305 Century Parkway, Allen, TX. 1. Approve minutes of March 16 and April 20 meetings MOTION: John Ogrizovich made a motion to approve the meeting minutes for March 16 and April 20 as presented. The motion was seconded by Kerry Craven and carried with all in favor 2. Update from Parks Dept on Horticulture and Environmental Programs Donna commended Denise and her crew for their hard work and its benefits, such as clearing plant debris which contributes to the free compost program. 3. 2010 Board Evaluation Form The City requested board input to assist with the selection of future board members. Chair Stacy Gonzales requested input from all board members for discussion at a later date. 4. Receive update on KAB Events and Protects a. Sustainable Landscape Seminar Series — February through June There were 26 attendees at the May 15 Sustainable Landscape Maintenance class. The next class is "Good Bugs, Bad Bugs" on June 5. b. Great American Cleanup —AAR A total of 1,264 vehicles came through both locations. More than 14 tons of items were collected for reuse and more than 16 tons of electronics were collected for recycling. More than 150 trees from Trees for Allen were given to participating residents. Approximately 1000 volunteers participated in this year's GAC c. Reuse -a -Shoe recognition at City Council — May 25 The classroom winner, Mrs. Bryner's class at Kerr Elementary, had a pizza party to celebrate. School, classroom, and individual winners will be recognized at City Council. d KTB Conference(Austin)— June 21-24 KAB pays for KTB award winners to attend the day of their award presentation e. USA Celebration — June 26 The event starts at 4:00 p.m. this year. KAB discussed setting up the recycling containers the morning of the event. Compostable serveware will be used again to promote zero waste. f. Electronics Collection — Aueust 7 This will be at City Hall from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p in. g. Educator Expo — September 23 KAB members solicit donations for this event, which showcases free education available through the City for local educators. Donors who meet a $30 minimum donation amount can provide information to be included in event giveaway bags. h. Home for the Harvest festival ( Village at Allen) — possibly September No further details available at this time. i. Recycled Art Contest — November This contest occurs before Allen Recycles Day Entries will be voted on the week before ARD and the award ceremony for the winners is on ARD j. Allen Recycles Day—November 6 This event is similar to the GAC, but on a somewhat smaller scale Many of the same organizations that participate in the GAC also participate in ARD. k. Rotary Holiday Parade — December The winners from the Recycled Art Contest are invited to walk in the parade with KAB, which is usually near the beginning of the parade 5. Receive Financial Report/Budget Update Donna Kliewer reported $14,74290 in the American National Bank account and $11,198.23 in the City KAB account 6. Receive reports from Strateeic Planning initiatives a. Communication Kerry Craven and Amanda Mattle are maintaining daily and weekly communications via email, Twitter, and All Allen E -News. Kerry will work on tips for the remainder of the year I Environmental Center Nothing new to report at this time. c Environmental Education in AISD Stacy Gonzales has set up a meeting with Lisa Casto and Larry Labue Donna Kliewer, Gail Donaldson, and Andrea Smith from Waste Services and Water Conservation will attend the meeting to discuss education available through the City. d. Parks and Recreation Liaison The Allen Event Center Health Fair is scheduled for August. John Ogrizovich attended the last Parks meeting, where the Master Plan was discussed.
