KEEP ALLEN BEAUTIFUL BOARD
REGULAR MEETING
JUNE 15, 2010 - 6:30 P.M.

Call to order and announce a quorum is Present
With a quorum present, the keep Allen Beautiful Regular Meeting was called to order by Vice -Chair Beverly
Pruitt at 6:36 p.m. on Tuesday, June 15, 2010 in the Council Conference Roam at City Hall, 305 Century
Parkway, Allen, TX.
1. Approve minutes of May 18 meeting
MOTION: Carolvn Winkler made a motion to approve the meeting minutes for May 18 as presented. The
motion was seconded by John Ogrizovich and carried with all in favor
2. Update from Parks Dept. on Horticulture and Environmental Programs
Denise Moore reported that all summer color is out. Parks is using the water trailer for irrigation.
Converting some beds to perennial beds has been discussed. Parks is also preparing for the Allen USA
Celebration Teens from Students on Service potted approximately 800 seedlings at the tree farm with Parks
supervision.
3. 2010 Board Evaluation Form
MOTION: Beverly Pruitt made a motion to approve the 2010 Board Evaluation Form as amended. The
motion was seconded by Mandy Brown and carried with all in favor.
4. Receive update on KAB Events and Projects
a. Sustainable Landscape Seminar Series— February through June
"Good Bugs, Bad Bugs" was held on June 5 and had 26 attendees. The final seminar of this year's
series, "Irrigation Insights," will be held on June 19
b. Reuse -a -Shoe recognition at City Council — AAR
Mike Barringer of The Shoe Bank attended and commended Allen's efforts. This event presents a good
opportunity for City Council to recognize the community's youth.
c. KTB Conference(Austin)— June 21-24
Mardy Brown will attend
d USA Celebration — June 26
KAB board members will man the KAB booth. City Educators will be on site to assist with the booth.
Visitors will play the "Talkm' Trash" spinner game to win prizes. Volunteers are needed to help sticker
the shuttle bus windows and set up the reevcling and compost bins on site prior to the event
e. Electronics Collection — August 7
This is a KAB-sponsored event in conjunction with the City of Allen. Cyclone Aluminum and Steel
collects various electronics for recycling from Allen residents.
f. Educator Expo — September 23
This event will be held at the AND Administration Building again this year Donors who provide a
giveaway worth $30.00 or more may provide advertising materials to be included in the giveaway bags
for attendees.
g. Home for the Harvest festival (Village at Allen) — September
No new information to report at this time
h. Recvcled An Contest—November
Winners will be recognized on Allen Recycles Day. This event is held at City Hall. Entries are
displayed in the rotunda and a ceremony for the youth is usually held in Council Chambers.
i. Allen Recycles Day — November 6
This event is usually held at City Hall in the parking lot. Volunteers will be needed for this event.
j. Rotary Holidav Parade — December 5
The parade starts in the afternoon. We will have Community Waste Disposal trucks, hand out
giveaways, and invite the participants in the Recycled Art Contest to walk with KAB in the parade.
5. Receive Financial Report/Budget Update
Donna Kliewer reported that the City KAB account balance is $9,181 38 and the American National Bank
account balance is $16.065.95.
6. Receive reports from Strategic Planning initiatives
a Communication
Kerry Craven continues to email daily green tips, which Amanda Mattle posts on Twitter. Weekly tips
are posted in the All Allen E -News and in the AISD HR Connection newsletter. Events are advertised
via Twitter and follow-ups are posted there, also.
b. Environmental Center
Plano's Environmental Center was discussed, as well as a possible trip to see it.
c. Environmental Education in AISD
AND has won the Outstanding Environmental Youth Education and Outreach Award from the Greater
DFW Recycling Alliance
d Parks and Recreation Liaison
Stacy attended the AHA meeting, where plans for the Health Fair/Wellness Expo are still being
discussed.
