Call to Order and Announce a Quorum is Present
With a quorum present, the Keep Allen Beautiful Regular Meeting was called to order by Chair Stacy Gonzales at
6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 in the Council Conference Room at City Hall, 305 Century Parkway, Allen,
TX.
1. Approve minutes of June 15 meeting
MOTION: Mardy Brown made a motion to approve the meeting minutes for June 15 as presented. The
motion was seconded by Carolyn Winkler and carried with all in favor.
2. Update from Parks Dept. on Horticulture and Environmental Programs
Denise Moore reported that a colony of bees was removed from a large black willow that fell on a resident's
fence. Efforts are being made to preserve a local historic pecan tree Soapberry trees in the ongoing study of
damage done by soapberry borers were tested and traps were set for the borers. Allen has a co -champion
Hercules Club on the Arts of Collin County site.
3. Receive update on KAB Events and Projects
a. Sustainable Landscape Seminar Series — February through June
The last class in this year's series, `Irrigation Insights," was held on June 19 and had 21 attendees
b. KTB Conference(Austin) —AAR
The conference was a valuable opportunity to share ideas and communicate with other affiliates. Four
winners from Allen were recognized the HOPE Team, Wesley Webre, Sue Kacines, and Walmart
Neighborhood Market. Community Waste Disposal attended to accept their award. Keep Allen Beautiful
won Gold Star status, a Certificate of Merit in the Civic Organization Award, and Sustained Excellence
2007-2009.
c. USA Celebration —AAR
It was a windy day and people started stopping by the booth early KAB's booth was continuously busy
with people wanting to play the "Talkid Trash" spinner game for prizes. The "Seriously "t -shirts were
very popular and allowed KAB to educate many Allen residents about solid waste issues Amanda Mattle
reported that she educated many attendees about the recycling and compost containers in the food area
Beverly Pruitt reported on her conversations with the vendors at the event. Some litter was noticed after
the fireworks, suggestions to prevent litter at the end of the event were discussed.
d. Council Recognition of KTB Award Applicants — July 27
The Allen award winners from the Keep Texas Beautiful Conference, as well as CWD, will be honored in
front of Council.
e. Electronics Collection — August 7
Cyclone will collect a -waste in the City Hall parking lot from 8:00 a m. to 1:00 p.m. A schmap (map with
event details) is being tweeted every day up to the day of the event.
f. Educator Expo — September 23
This event will be at the AISD Administration Building again this year from 4:30 to 6'00 p.m.
g. Home for the Harvest festival (Village at Allen)— September
No new information to report.
h Recycled An Contest — November
Forms of entries were discussed for this event, which is held in conjunction with Allen Recycles Day
Winners will be awarded on Allen Recycles Day
i. Allen Recvcles Day — November 6
Part of America Recycles Day, this is a large drive-through donation and recycling event will be held
from 8.00 a.m to 1 *00 p.m
j. Rotary Holiday Parade — December 5
The winners of the Recycled Art Contest are invited to walk with Keep Allen Beautiful and hand out
giveaways.
4. Receive Financial Report/Budget Update
Amanda Mattle reported that there is $15,965.95 in the American National Bank account and $6,678 28 in the
City KAB account
5. Receive reports from Strategic Planning initiatives
a. Communication
Kerry Craven is sending daily green tips via email and weeklv lips are included in the All Allen E -News
The daily green tips are being posted on Twitter, as well as news about KAB activities and events and
other green news Thank -you `tweets" to Adopt-a-Highwav, Adopt -a -Waterway, and Adopt -a -Spot
groups are posted after groups conduct cleanups.
b. Environmental Center
No new information to report.
c. Environmental Education in AISD
No new information to report
d. Parks and Recreation Liaison
Beverly Pruitt discussed recycling at the track field Keep Allen Beautiful has made A clearstream
recycling container available during practices, providing a way for people to recycle water bottles

The regular session of the Keep Allen Beautiful board was adjourned at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 20, 2010.
