Call to Order and Announce a Ouorum is Present
With a quorum of the Board members present, the Regular Meeting of the Allen Public Library was called to
order by Board Member, Julia Elina, at 7:29 p.m. on Tuesday July 10, 2007 in the Board Room of the Allen
Public Library, 300 North Allen Drive, Allen, Texas.
1. Citizen's Comments.
There were no Citizen Comments
2. Approve Minutes of the June 5, 2007, Regular Meeting.
Motion: Upon A motion made by Board Member, Donald Wing, and a second by Board Member,
Ruth Pringle, the Board voted (5) for and none (0) opposed to approve the June 10, 2007 Library
Board minutes with one correction.
3. Review Monthly Statistics and Suggestion Forms.
The Library Board reviewed the Monthly Statistics and read all of the Suggestion Forms.

4. Complete Board Evaluation Form.
Library Director, Barbara Buehler went down the list of questions on the board evaluation form and the
library board completed every question on the board evaluation form.
5. Consider New Resolution Regarding Library Acquisition Fund.
Library Director, Barbara Buehler gave the board a copy of the revised Resolution regarding the
Library Acquisition Fund. It reads as follows:
I move that Ordinance # 686-3-86 be amended to provide that $71,685 of the funds in the Library
Acquisition Fund be expended for the Allen Public Library's share of the purchase of the Polaris
Library System, that $25,000 of the funds in the Library Acquisition Fund be transferred to the
library's budget line item for the purchase of books, and that the remaining funds in the Library
Acquisition Fund be designated for the Foundation which the Library Board and Friends of the Allen
Public Library are currently in the process of finalizing.
Motion: Upon A motion made by Board Member, Ruth Pringle, and a second by Board Member,
Susan McDaniel, the Board voted (5) for and none (0) opposed to approve the revised Resolution
regarding the Library Acquisition Fund.
1 6. Planning for 401h Celebration.
Tom Keener, Cultural Arts Coordinator, reported to the board that October's 40t° Anniversary events
will be advertised in the Texas Parks and Wildlife magazine which is distributed statewide This is
financed with a grant that we had applied for with the Economic Development Hotel/Motel Tax.
Tom reported that we have lined up all the Cultural Arts groups to perform each Sunday in October.
Some of these will perform inside because of the type program it will be, such as the Chinese Choral
Group. The others will be performing outside n long as the weather permits. Weare also going to
have a program on Decorative Painting with Susan Mynyk. She will be telling the history and giving
demonstrations on the art of decorative painting. Susan Mynvk also got the National Organization to
donate a subscription to the library on Decorative Painting.
Kathy Latins with the Symphony Choms has agreed to do an Evening on Broadway Hits from 1967
in the auditorium in October
We will have Debbie Crombie, an author who is a hot mystery writer. She specializes in writing
British mysteries. After the author's appearance we will have a photo exhibit and symphony that
evening on Saturday, October 271°
Tom is still working on some cultural events. The Allen Ballet has agreed to do a short program and
the Allen Community Theatre has to disband due to some paperwork that was done wrong on their 501
C-3 application. The board discussed some other groups that might participate such as the Collin
County Theatre Group and/or some of the schools theatre groups.
Jay Conrad is going to do a program on Quilts. She is going to talk about the history of quilts and
different patterns and what she looks for when she judges quilts. This program will not be in October
but will be the last day of September.

The board discussed other crafts and things that might be added to our event list such as Woodturners,
maybe a whittler and/or a storyteller. Also, Tom announced that the Snoopy Exhibit will be coming
in October and that is something else that we could add to our list of events.
Items of Interest.
The Arts Alliance asked board member, Julia Elmo if she would find out whether they could have one
of the library's display cases on a permanent basis. Library Director, Barbara Buehler said that would
not be possible as they are in too much demand. They are also used many times for traveling exhibits
that come to the library Our display cases are booked out at least a year in advance

Motion: Upon A motion made by Board Member. Susan McDonald, and a second by Board Member,
Donna Drews Vanous, the Board voted (5) for and none (0) opposed to adjourn the library board
meeting at 9 10 PM.
