Call to Order and Announce a Ouorum is Present
With a quorum of the Board members present, the Regular Meeting of the Allen Public Library was called to
order by Jo Long, Board -Chair at 7:23 p.m. on Tuesday May 2, 2006, in the Board Room of the Allen Public
Library, 300 North Allen Drive, Allen, Texas.
1. Citizen's Comments.
There were no Citizen Comments.
2. Approve Minutes of the April 4, 2006, Regular Meeting.
The Library Board approved the minutes of the April 4, 2006 regular meeting.
3. Review Monthly Activity Report and Suggestion Forms.
The Library Board reviewed the monthly statistics. The board noted that the foot traffic was less in March,
2006 than March, 2005. Library Director, Barbara Buehler reviewed the Comparison of Use Statistics
Report. The report reflected a significant change and increase of usage from year 2005. Suggestion Forms
Were reviewed.

1 4. Consider Recognition for Puppeteens.
The board discussed recognizing the Puppeteens and agreed the month of July might be suitable. Further
discussion will be held at the June board meeting.
5. Review Quarterly Library Acquisition Fund Balance.
The fund generated revenue the past year. The library board discussed the possibility of putting the money
into a foundation. The cities of Plano, Weatherford, Arlington, and Frisco have foundations specifically for
the library.
6. Summer Programs.
Library Director, Barbara Buehler distributed the calendar for activities planned for school age children.
The library's big "kick off' for the summer programs is June 1, 2006. "Reading. ...the Sport of
Champions" is the theme. "Get your kicks in Summer "06" is the theme for the teen's summer program.
The outline of their activities was presented.
7. Update from Northeast Texas Library Systems Meeting.
Library Director, Barbara Buehler and Board member Ruth Pringle attended the Spring meeting. The
budget was approved and a recognition for volunteers and lay representatives was held. Allen was
recognized for developing a video for recruiting teen volunteers.
8. Items of Interest.
The special event, "Day of the Child, Day of the Book", was held on Sunday, April 30, 2006. Kiwanis
donated $1,000.00 toward the event, Chick-fil-a donated lemonade. It was very successful and well
attended.
"One Book, One Community", the event in McKinney was reviewed.
The Board's survey was discussed. It is with the City's Information department, to be sent out soon
Scott Tubbs, an Allen citizen, has collected illustrations and original art works. He is interested in donating
these to the library. Library Director, Barbara Buehler, has talked with him and has invited him to attend a
board meeting.
The Friends' Jazzy Night and the Poetry Reading events were both successful.
The Rotary Club donated money for the Teenscape. They will be presenting a plaque for the room in
recognition of their centennial year, Wednesday. May 3, 2006.

• May 29,2006—Memorial Day—Library Closed.

10. Adjourn
The Library Board meeting adjourned at 8:35 P.M.
