THE CITY OF ALLEN, ALLEN, TEXAS
September 16, 1965
Present: Mayor Gentry T. Jones, after first motion was passed .
Aldermen-Jimmy Gantt, Ken Posey, Dan Strong and
R. B. Whisenant.
Absent : Alderman B, J. Enloe.
Meeting called to order by Mayor Pro-Tem Jimmy Gantt.
Bills for the month of September were read. Motion by R. B.
Whisenant to pay bills. Seconded by Ken Posey. Motion passed--
Ayes 3, noes none.
Jack Flanagan, Fire Chief was present to discuss with the council
the possibility of purchasing some new fire hose,
Motion by R. B. Whisenant--authorizing the purchase of 800' of 2 1/2"
fire hose and 500' of 1 1/2" fire hose when money is available. Seconded
by Dan Strong. Motion passed ayes 4, noes none.
Motion by R. B. Whisenant to pay Uvalde Construction Company the sum
of $31,639.08, which is 10% less than the total cost, until our city
engineer and councilmen are satisfied with the work done by Uvalda,
Seconded by Jimmy Gantt. Motion passed-Ayes 4, noes none.
Ellis Street and Keith Street projects were discussed by the council.
Motion by Dan Strong to get three bids on these streets for 2" hot
mix and concrete approaches to Ellis and Keith. Seconded by Jimmy
Gantt. Motion passed-Ayes 4, noes none.
City Engineers were instructed to check Watson Street at the South
end of Ave. C. South.
Motion by Jimmy Gantt authorizing Mayor Jones to contact our local
bank concerning the issuing of warrants for the purpose of street
improvements. Seconded by Dan Strong. Motion passed--Ayes 4, noes,
none.
Motion by Dan Strong that the letter received from Charles Ray of
Ray and Craig Insurance Company be turned over to the City Attorney
for an answer. Seconded by Jimmy Gantt. Motion passed--Ayes 4, noes
none.

Sealed bid on garbage and trash pickup was opened and read to the
council. Souther Sanitation Company from Greengille submitted the
only bid. City Council requested Mr. Orr, City Attorney to draw up
a contract subject to approval by City Council and Souther Sanitation
Compnay. This contract will be discussed at a special meeting
September 23, 1965.
Mayor Jones, with the approval of the City Council, hire George
Martin as patrolman three nights per week being Friday, Saturday,
and Sunday from 8:00 pm to 6:00 am. Salary to be $100.00 per night
plus $1.50 per night for gas. James Loven to be retained Monday,
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights as he has been serving.
