quorum was announced by Chairperson, Donna Drews Various Board members present were
John Ross, Cindy Wynn -Sangster, Cal Calvin and Marybeth Bonczek. Library Director, Barbara
Buehler, was present, as well.
II. Report on the NETLS meeting attended by Barbara Buehler.
Subjects of interest included the following:
- Running the library as a business.
- The library having its own website.
- The State Library is subscribing to databases that will make many publications
available online to the Allen Public Library.
- The new NETLS President's platform includes asking for state funding for
libraries in states that do not do so now Texas does not currently fund its

libraries.
John Ross asked why the library doesn't have its own website. Barbara Buehler replied that
Peter Vargas believes that the library website should be a part of the City of Allen's website
which is managed through the public information officer.
John Ross felt that having a library website would be a service to the people and would be easier
to find He also said that the Board has the authority to recommend a website for the library to
the City Council.
Cal Calvin stated that online accessibility is the key

L The regular meeting of the Allen Public Library Board was called to order at 740 p.m. and a
quorum was announced by Chairperson, Donna Drews Various Board members present were

Frank Snidow asked that each of the Board members place a yard sign in their yard and commit
to putting up at least 5 yard signs in support of the bond election. The signs will read, "The Next
Chapter." Signs are scheduled to be put together on July 12.
The PAC will be a part of the parade on July 1st and has ordered T -Shirts for volunteers to wear
while handing out information. Also, a Clifford costume was donated to be used in the parade
Donna Drews Various asked each of the Board members if they would agree to have their
signature put on an ad in the newspaper in support of the bond election.
John Ross stated that he believed the civic auditorium would be a selling point for local
businesses to support the bond election.
Donna Drews Various suggested that when speaking to businesses it would be a good idea to
"Sell' the auditorium as a place for presentations, etc.
V. Reviewed the City Bond Election Brochure.
VI. Other Business
The Scholastic Book Fair that the Friends of the Library held was very successful. They
achieved their goal of $1,000 to sales
Christopher Reich, the author that the library hosted, was a success.
VII. The meeting was adjourned at 8*50 p m.
