ALLEN PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD
FEBRUARY 6, 1996
ALLEN PUBLIC LIBRARY
TWO ALLEN CIVIC PLAZA
ALLEN, TX 75013
1. The February 6, 1996 regular meeting of the Allen Library Board was called to order at 7:35
PM by Board Chair, Fritz Dietrich. Members present were Julie Wilmoth, Eric Liepins, Donna
Various, Carl Williams and Sharon Curtis. Also present was Library Director Barbaro Buehler.
H. The minutes from the December 5, 1995 meeting were reviewed. Carl Williams suggested an
addition be made to the December minutes stating under Section IX that a January meeting
would not be held due to the close proximity to the holidays. A motion was made by Eric
Liepins and seconded by Dona Vanous for approval of the minutes as corrected.
IB. Barbara passed out the December and January statistical summary for review, as well as items
from the suggestion box. The drop in Storyflme/Film Attendance for both months was noted.
One suggestion from the suggestion box was to add later evening hours more evenings during
the week. The board discussed this idea noting this would require additional staffing.
IV. The Quarterly Report on status of Library Acquisition Fund was distributed. The food balance
as of December 31, 1995 is $302,253.35.
V. Consider Sunday closings on Memorial Day & labor Day holiday weekends. The board
discussed the pros and cons of closing the library on the Sunday before a Monday holiday. Fritz
Dietrich moved to table this discussion until we can get further information on the subject.
Dooms Vanous seconded the motion. Motion passed.
VI. Consider impact of meeting room changes on library services. Barbara Buehler reported that the
Allen City Council needs to move their meeting mom and would like to use the library meeting
room. This is not definite yet and the move would probably not take place until July. The board
discussed impact the loss of this meeting room would have on library patrons and citizens of
Allen. The board has requested that Barbara Buehler gather data on the usage of the meeting
room and Donna Vanous will draft a letter to the City Council stating the concerns of the board
in regard to this matter.
VI. Review proposed projects for use of 4B Sales Tax Frauds. The items on the list are possible
projects for the city if the 1/2 cent sales tax passes. The library items on the list included
computer equipment, signage, CD music collection and children's collection for a total of
$162,000. The election will be held May 4.
VII. Report on Friends Activities. Barbaro reported that the January Musical Program was a success
with nearly 70 people attending.
IX. Personnel Matters. The library has filled the positions of Children's Clerk and Library Clerk.
X. Barbara repotted that a contract has been signed for the doors and that the shelving is complete.
Early voting will be held at the library through March 8 and election day is March 12.
M. A motion was made by Sharon Curtis and seconded by Dolma Various to adjourn at 9:05 PM.
