The May 6, 1997 Allen Public Library Board meeting was called to order at 7.35 p.m. by
Board Vice Chairperson, Donna Vanous. Members present were John Ross, Fronk Snidow,
Rhonda Grigg, and Carl Williams. Also present were Library Director, Barbara Buehler, and
Friends of the Library member, Wilma Smith. Board Chairman, Fritz Dietrich, arrived late per
notification.
IL John Ross moved to approve the minutes of the April 1, 1997 meeting and Rhonda Grigg
seconded the motion Motion carried.
DL Fritz Dietrich read the comments and suggestions from the suggestion box and the items were
discussed by the members present
IV. Barbara Buehler reported on the activities from the TLA conference. Children's Librarian,
Manta Richards had submitted an application for a grant from the Texas Book Festival. First
Lady, Lam Bush, awarded the Allen Public Library a grant for $2,500. Barbaro Buehler also
reported that library internet policy was a frequent topic of discussion.
V. Barbara Buehler reported thal she had sent a letter to Lam Bush inviting her to participate in
the Library's thirtieth anniversary celebration. Other plans for the celebration were also
discussed
VL Barbara Buehler also reported that she had been preparing the budget for next fiscal year.
Notable requested changes included additional staff and a custodian. John Ross moved for a
special called meeting to discuss the budget and presentation to the City Council. Carl Williams
seconded the motion Motion carred The special meeting was tentatively set for May 20, 1997
VIL Barbara Buehler reported on the results of the library survey Highlights of the survey were
• 90% of respondents were satisfied with the service
• Over half of the respondents wrote in comments about the libmty hours
• 35% of respondents indicated that the library hours were not convenient
VIIL a. Wilma South reported that am officers of the Friends of the Library were sworn in.
Gail Sachson, from the Connemara Conservancy, was the guest speaker
b. Barbam Buehler stated the June 16 NETLS meeting will be held at Southfork Ranch.
c. Barbam Buehler reported that the library currently has two temporary positions open
it. Barbara Buehler distributed copies of the Acquisition Fund Report for review.
