Call to Order and Announce a Quorum is Present
With a quorum present, the Keep Allen Beautiful Regular Meeting was called to order by Vice Chair Cheryl
Baez at 6:31 p.m. on Tuesday, December 20, 2015 in the City Council Conference Room at City Hall, 305
Century Parkway, Allen, TX.
1. Update from Parks Department on Horticulture and Environmental Programs
On behalf of Jesse Simmons, City Forester, Andrea Smith shared information about the Rose Rosette virus.
2. Approve Minutes of December 16, 2014 Meeting
A motion to approve minutes of the December 16 board meeting was made by Stacy Gonzales; seconded by
Mark Schallhorn, with all in favor.
3. Receive Financial Report/Budget Update
Andrea Smith reported $16,623.01 unencumbered in the City account and $25,571.14 in the American
National Bank account. A motion to approve the financials was made by Susan Ponder and seconded by
Cathy Hawkins, with all in favor.
4. Continue Discussion to Create KAB Scholarship Fund for Future Recipients
Regina Taylor of the Foundation for Allen Schools ("Foundation') discussed how the Foundation administers
scholarships, timelines, and the possible criteria for scholarship selection, such as volunteerism and
requiring an essay. She invited board members to attend a scholarship reception on May 26, 2015, and
offered to share information from the spring's applicant pool to help further define judging criteria. Stacy
Gonzales shared information about the Kroger Community Rewards Program and asked the board to
consider it as a possible scholarship funding source. Discussions are to be continued at the next board
meeting.

5. Receive Update on KAB Events and Projects
• GCAA Award/KTB Awards Applications Due—February 3, 2015
Donna Kliewer reported that she is working on the GCAA, Andrea Smith to follow up with Casey
Bennett regarding the status of the Change the World Weekend application. Cheryl Baez will follow
up with Stacy Gonzales regarding status of the write up for Kelly McDonald.
• Arbor Day Poster Contest Awards Presentation at City Council — February 10, 2015
Andrea Smith reported that the winners are Emelia Swanson, 1" place, Lindsey Elementary; Nidki
Pabbathi, 2"d place, Olson Elementary; and Jessica Shivers, 3`d place, Lindsey Elementary. Andrea
asked that the board members attend to help present the awards. Susan Ponder asked that
consideration be given to changing the criteria for the contest and that the judging sheet be
simplified.
• Kids Helping Kids Book Drive — February 16-27, 2015
Andrea Smith reported that the dates were changed to February 17-27 due to a school staff work
day on February 16. Information has been sent out to all PTA environmental chairs regarding the
contest. The books (K-12) will go to Jamaica and Belize.
• Reuse -a -Shoe Contest @ AISD— March 23 to April 30, 2015
Andrea Smith reported that she will begin work on the flyer.
• Earthfest 2014—April 4, 2015
Donna Kliewer reported that Earthfest will be held at a new location yet to be determined.
• Great American Clean Up — April 18, 2015
Mark Schallhorn reported that he had made initial contacted DME Exchange of Dallas to see if they
would be interested in participating. DME recycles durable medical equipment for those in need.
Andrea Smith will follow up with Amy Soto, Patient Services Manager.
7. Receive Reports from Strategic Planning Initiatives
a) Communication
Twitter updates are still occurring on a regular basis.
b) Environmental Center/Molsen Farm
No update at this time.
c) Environmental Education in AISD
Donna Kliewer reported that the Vocal Trash/Green Elementary video had been completed, but not
yet published. Andrea Smith will forward it to board members via email.
d) Parks and Recreation Liaison
No update at this time.
e) Scout/Service Organization Liaison
Susan Ponder reported that the round table meeting for the Boy Scouts will be on February 12, 2015
at 7:00 p.m. and would like Andrea Smith, Solid Waste, and William Nahas, Water Conservation, to
attend to provide KAB as a resource for merit badges for Dens/Packs and their leaders.
