COMMUNITY ROOM MUNICIPAL COURT, PARKS AND RECREATION BUILDING 301 CENTURY PARKWAY ALLEN, TX 75013 Present Absent Susan Frierott Mardy Brown Mark Schallhom Stacy Gonzales Susan Ponder Cheryl Baez Cathy Hawkins Staff Present Donna Kliewer, Waste Services Manager Andrea Smith, Education Specialist Josue Diaz, Education Specialist Call to Order and Announce a Quorum is Present Guests John Holley, Cheatham Elementary Lucy McKenzie, Leadership Allen With a quorum present, the Keep Allen Beautiful regular meeting was called to order by Vice Chair Cheryl Baez at 6:35 pm on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 in the Community Room, City Council Conference Room, 305 Century Parkway, Allen, TX 1. Approve Minutes of January 20, 2015 in the Community Room in the Municipal Court, Parks, and Recreation Building, 301 Century Parkway, Allen, TX 75013. • A motion to approve minutes of the January 20 board meeting was made by Susan Frierrott; seconded by Mark Schallhorn, with all in favor. 2. Receive Financial Report(Budget Update • Josue Diaz reported $15,502.77 unencumbered in the City account and $28,471.69 in the American National Bank account. A motion to approve the financials was made by Susan Ponder and seconded by Mark Schallhom, with all in favor. 3. Receive Update from Parks Department on Horticulture and Environmental Programs • Parks will participate and provide 150 seedlings to give away at Earthfest. The Arbor Day tree was planted at Lindsey Elementary this week. Update on Rose Rosette disease. 4. Receive Grant Proposal from Cheatham Elementary A motion was made by Mark Schallhom to approve the Grant Proposal presented by John Holley to fund a trip to the CWD MRF for Cheatham Elementary first grade classes at a cost of $320. Motion was seconded by Susan Frierott, with all in favor. 5. Continue Discussion to Create KAB Scholarship Fund. I • Comments from the board were previously received by Mandy Brown and will be consolidated and mailed to board members prior to the next discussion. • KAB will donate $10,000 to Allen Foundation for Schools to set up a KAB scholarship for the 2015-16 school year and forward. Detailed application parameters will be worked out in the coming months. 6. Receive Update on KAB Events and Projects • Received GACC Award/KTB Awards Update. Donna Kliewer reported that GACC Award/KTB Awards were finished and sent. • Received Arbor Day Poster Contest Update. Andrea Smith reported there will be a Tree Planting Ceremony at Lindsey Elementary to honor the Arbor Day poster contest winner. • Received Kids Helping Kids Book Drive Update. Andrea Smith reported that the book drive had already received more books than the previous year with more coming in weekly. • Received Litter Index Update. Josue Diaz reported that the Litter Index was scheduled for March 11, 2015 and needed volunteers. • Received Reuse -a -Shoe Contest Update. Dates are set and schools have been contacted. • Received Earthfest update. Donna Kliewer reported that they were still looking for a site. • Received Great American Cleanup Update. Josue Diaz reported that they were working on confirming vendors, revising the 2015 flyer, and discussed board volunteer roles. 7. Receive Reports from Strategic Planning Initiatives and Assignment of Board Members • Communication i. Received Twitter Update. Tweets are still occurring. • Environmental Center/Molson Farm i. No update at this time. • Environmental Education in AND i. Donna Kliewer reported that the new carton recycling program was ongoing and outreach to other PTA Enviro-Chairs was tomorrow at Green Elementary at 9am. • Parks and Recreation Liaison i. Grant funds were received to expand Allen's trails in specific areas. • Scout/Service Organization Liaison i. Susan Ponder reported on the contact with the Cub Scout Roundtable and the fall plans for expansion.
