Call to Order and Announce a Quorum is Present
With a quorum present, the Keep Allen Beautiful regular meeting was called to order by Chair
Cheryl Baez at 6:35 pm on April 21, 2015 in the Community Room, Municipal Court in the Parks and
Recreation Building, 900 S. Greenville Avenue, Allen, TX.
1. Approve Minutes of March 17, 2015 in the Community Room in the Municipal Service Center,
900 S. Greenville Avenue, Allen, TX 75002.
A motion to approve minutes of the March 17 board meeting was made by Susan Ponder, seconded by
Mark Schallhoru, with all in favor.
2. Receive Financial Report/Budget Update.
Josue Diaz reported $8,268.64 unencumbered in the City Account and $14,969.86 in the American
National Bank account. A motion to approve the financials was made by Susan Ponder and seconded
by Cheryl Baez, with all in favor.
3. Receive Update from Parks Department on Horticulture and Environmental Programs.
Jesse Simmons reported that Parks & Rec was putting a new trail in at Bethany Lakes Park, planting a
memorial tree in Bethany Lakes Park with Tom Keener, and installing a Water Wise demo garden at
the Allen Public Library. Hillside and Orchard Hill pocket parks are being renovated; the Old Stone
Dam trail has been started.
4. Continue Discussion of KAB Shirt and Jacket Order.
Josue Diaz collected shirt sizes and contact information from the group. Susan will order these items.

5. Continue Discussion of KAB Scholarship Fund.
Donna Kliewer suggested that we collect the survey information and reserve discussion for next
meeting after the group has time to review data. Mark said he sent survey information earlier in the
year. Marty confirmed and will send his notes to JosW.
6. Receive Update on KAB Events and Projects.
• Received Egg-cellent Family Adventure After Action Report. Andrea Smith reported that the
event was fun and definitely worthwhile with over 700 visitors to the KAB table.
• Received Earthfest After Action Report. Andrea Smith reported that event needed more
volunteers to stay for cleanup and to include an official clicker count. This year's event had over
1,000 visitors. The new location at Dayspring Nature Reserve was great and generated a lot of
positive feedback.
• Received Reuse -a -Shoe Contest After Action Report. Andrea Smith reported that we had lower
school participation with no final count and 611 pairs collected at the GAC.
• Received Great American Cleanup After Action Report. Josud Diaz reported event went well with
1,571 cars dropping off items and 84 volunteers helping.
• Received KTB Conference in Ft. Worth Reminder. Josu6 Diaz reported that the conference will
be on lune 15-17. Marty confirmed attendance.
• Received Allen USA Update—Josue Diaz reported that we need 100 volunteers. Allen USA is on
June 27. 2015.
7. Receive Reports from Strategic Planning Initiatives and Assignment of Board Members.
a. Communication
• Josue Diaz reported that KAB is tweeting and posting on Earthfest Facebook. Volunteers
tweeting and posting from KAB events have social value. KAB is getting retweets and
reposts from many sources.
b. Environmental Center/Molson Farm
Molson is still on hold.
c. Environmental Education in AISD
• AISD has been discussing an AISD Science Center to possibly be funded in an upcoming
bond election. This could possibly fit with a City Environmental Leaming Center to
serve both entities.
d. Parks and Recreation Liaison
Nothing to Report
e. Scout/Service Organization Liaison
• Nothing to Report

The regular session of the Keep Allen Beautiful board was adjourned at g:(x) pm on Tuesday, April 21, 2015.
A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Susan Ponder: seconded by Mark Schallhom, with all in favor.
