1. Call to Order and Announce a Quorum is Present
With a quorum of Board Members present, the Regular Meeting of the Allen Public Library
was called to order by Acting Board Chair Michelle Perry at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday,
November 5, 2019, in the Allen Public Library Board Room, 300 North Allen Drive, Allen,
Texas.
2. Introduce and Welcome New Board Member
The Board welcomed new member Laura Wooten.
3. Elect New Officers for 2019-2020
The Board elected new officers for 2019-2020. Jack Bick was elected as Chair. Maroba
Zoeller was elected as Vice-Chair. Michelle Perry was elected as Secretary.
4. Approve Minutes of the August 6,2019 Regular Meeting
MOTION: Upon a motion made by Scott Phillips and seconded by Michelle Perry, the Board
voted to approve the August 6, 2019 minutes.

5. Discuss Library Expansion and Services
Library Director Jeff Timbs discussed the possibility of initiating citizen input in 2020 for facility
expansion, similar to the process used for the Exchange Parkway Recreation Center.
6. Status Report on Digital Collections
Director Timbs shared statistical data about the Cloud Library digital collection with the usage
increasing 25% for 2018-2019 over 2017-2018. The Denton and New Braunfels libraries recently
joined the Texas Cloud Library consortium increasing the collective holdings to approximately
149,000 items. The Library also added digital magazines from RB Digital, starting with 82 titles. The
magazine collection might be expanded to almost 3300 titles by April 2020.
7. Review and Discuss July,August, September and Year-End 2019 Library Statistics
Overall checkouts increased 24.2%, visitors increased 3.5%, and in-house use increased 34% for 2018-
2019 versus 2017-2018. Program attendance decreased 12%partly due to the necessity to limit
attendance and prevent overcrowding, especially at children's programs.
8. Recap Friends of the Library,Allen Library Endowment Fund, and ALLen Reads Activities
This year's ALLen Reads book was The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind by William Kamkwamba and
Bryan Mealer. Mr. Mealer visited Allen schools on October 18th, spoke at the Library on the
afternoon of October 19th, and attended an Allen Library Endowment Fund fundraising event on the
evening of October 19th at Blue House Too in Watters Creek.
9. Discuss Items for Future Board Meeting Agendas
The Board wants to include updates each meeting about the status of Library expansion plans..
10. Items of Interest.[Board announcements regarding local civic and charitable events, meetings,
fundraisers, and awards.)
i. November 28-29—Library Closed.
ii. December 6—Holly Jolly Celebration and Christmas Tree Lighting.
iii. December 13 —Annual Board Appreciation Dinner.
iv. December 23-25 —Library Closed.
v. January 1 -Library Closed.

vi. February 4 -Next Scheduled Library Advisory Board Meeting at 6:30 p.m. in the Library
Board Room.
11. Adjourn
MOTION: Upon a motion made by Scott Phillips and seconded by Maroba Zoeller, the Board voted
seven(7) for and none (0) opposed to adjourn the Board meeting at 7:23 p.m.
These minutes approved on the 4th day of February 2020.
