BASEMENT -MEETING ROOM B 305 CENTURY PARKWAY ALLEN,TX 75013 PRESENT VISITORS STAFF PRESENT Ponder, Susan Brill, Grant Diaz, Josue, Education Specialist Chisholm, Steve Doherty, Lauren Giles, Donna, Commercial Waste Webre, Troy Stanzo, Karen Services Specialist Bernard, Sommer Stanzo, Sophie Kliewer, Donna, Solid Waste Manager Smith, Ryan Stanzo, Tony Smith,Andrea, Education Specialist Ahmad, Munia Kacines, Susan Call to Order and Announce a Quorum is Present With a quorum present, Chair Sue Kacines called the Keep Allen Beautiful regular meeting to order at 6:34 pm on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 in the City Hall Basement Conference Room B of City Hall, 305 Century Parkway, Allen, TX 75002. 1. Approve Minutes of October 16, 2018 Meeting in the City Hall Basement- Meeting Room B,305 Century Parkway,Allen,TX. A motion to approve the minutes of October 16, 2018 was made by Munia Ahmad and seconded by Sommer Bernard, with all in favor. 2. Receive Financial Report. Josue Diaz reported that there was $17,842.43 in the American National Bank account. A motion to accept the financial report was made by Sommer Bernard and seconded by Munia Ahmad, with all in favor. 3. Gold Award, Sophie Stanzo, Girl Scout Troop 7203. Stophie Stanzo gave an aquaponics presentation to the KAB board requesting$400 to fund her Girl Scout Gold Award project. A motion to approve the grant request pending additional information was made by Ryan Smith and seconded by Sue Kacines, with all in favor. 4. Styrofoam Discussion. Sue Kacines summarized the Styrofoam recycling program in Lucas, Texas. Donna Kliewer explained the obstacles to starting a Styrofoam program in Allen and provided information about Allen residents being able to utilize Frisco's drop off facility. The board discussed the program and decided it is not something they would like to pursue at this time. 5. Receive Update on KAB Events and Projects. 305 CENTURY PARKWAY•ALLEN,TEXAS 75013 • 214.509.4100 WEB: www.cityofallen.org•EMAIL: coa@cityofallen.org • Arbor Day Celebration/Trees for Allen—Josue Diaz reported that 255 trees were sold. • Allen Recycles Day/Recycled Art Contest—Andrea Smith reported that K—8th grade participated this year and 29 students were recognized at the awards ceremony. Josue Diaz reported the Allen Recycles Day numbers. • Rotary Holiday Parade—Josue Diaz reported that the holiday parade photo was sent to the board. • Arbor Day Poster Contest—Andrea Smith reported that the posters are due at City Hall on January 25. She expressed concerns about fewer schools participating this year. • GCAA Application—A GCAA sample was provided to the board. Donna Kliewer explained the importance and difficulty of winning the award. • KTB Individual and Organization Award Applications—Josue Diaz reported that the awards open on January 22. • Allen Eagle Run—Josue Diaz asked for volunteers. Munia Ahmad, Ryan Smith, Susan Ponder, and Steve Chisholm volunteered for the event. • Eggscellent Family Adventure—Josue Diaz asked for volunteers. Ryan Smith, Sue Kacines, Ryan Smith, Sommer Bernard, and Steve Chisholm volunteered for the event. • Reuse-A-Shoe—Nothing to report. • Great American Cleanup—Donna Kliewer discussed the need to change the GAC. • Open House &Equipment Display—Nothing to report. 6. Discussion of Outreach Initiatives. Josue Diaz reported that staff was continuing their outreach efforts in the schools for the spring. Andrea Smith reported that there was a tour of the MRF on May 15 and asked if any board members would like to attend. Adjourn A motion to adjourn the regular session of the Keep Allen Beautiful board meeting was made by Susan Ponder, and seconded by Troy Webre, with all in favor.
