AN ORDINANCE ORDERING AN ELECTION
TO BE HELD IN THE CITY OF ALLEN, TEXAS,
FOR THE PURPOSE OF SUBMITTING TO QUALIFIED
VOTERS OF THE CITY OF ALLEN, TEXAS, A PROPOSED
HOME RULE CHARTER WHICH, IF ADOPTED, WOULD CHANGE
ALLEN, TEXAS, FROM A GENERAL LAW CITY TO A HOME RULE CITY
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALLEN, TEXAS:
WHEREAS, .the Charter Commission, composed of Roger Powell, Jr., as
Chairman thereof, and Carol Henry, Sandy Carroll, Wendell Housley, Jim Kerr,
Newton Buckley, Ed Lynge, Henry Hedgecoxe, Rex Womack, Bill Day, Dick Erick-
son, Earnest Roberts, Chuck Williams, Mike Claytor, and Tim Inkman, all quali-
fied citizens of the City of Allen, having completed its work of framing a proposed
home rule charter for the City of Allen, Texas, and said Charter Commission
having designated the 20th day of January, 1979, as the date for an election to be
held for the purpose of submitting said proposed new charter to the qualified voters
of said City, which day is not less than 40 nor more than 90 days after the comple-
tion of the work of the Charter Commission;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDERED:
SECTION 1: That a special election be and the same is hereby called for
the 20th day of January, 1979, for the purpose of submitting said proposed new
charter for the City of Allen, Texas, to the qualified voters of said City.
SECTION 2: That said election be held in accordance with the Constitution
and laws of the State of Texas, and all duly qualified resident voters of the City of
Allen, Texas, shall be qualified to vote.
SECTION 3: That the ballot shall have the following language printed thereon:
OFFICIAL BALLOT
Instructions: Place an "X" in the space beside the statement indicating
the way you wish to vote.

SECTION 4: That notice of said special election shall be given by posting
a copy of this Ordinance and election order at each election precinct at least 20
days before the day of the election and be' published in the Allen American News-
paper, a newspaper of general circulation in the County and in the City of Allen,
not more than 30 days nor less than 10 days before the date of said election.
