A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALLEN, COLLIN
COUNTY, TEXAS, APPROVING THE MASTER PLAN OF THE 1986 TEXAS
SESQUICENTENNIAL CELEBRATION COMMITTEE FOR THE CITY OF ALLEN.
WHEREAS, the Allen City Council has passed Resolution
No. 568-11-84 (R) creating the 1986 Texas Sesquicentennial
Celebration Committee for the City of Allen; and,
WHEREAS, it is the responsibility of this Committee
to create and develop a Master Plan of projects, celebrations,
and activities for the upcoming Texas Sesquicentennial;
and,
WHEREAS, the approval of said Master Plan will enable
the City of Allen to be sanctioned as a Texas Independence
Community with all attendant rights and privileges granted
by the Texas 1986 Sesquicentennial Commission.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF ALLEN, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Master Plan of Activities
The following is a list of activities that are planned
for the 1986 celebration:
January - Art contest judging in local school: posters,
mural
February - Tree -planting in significant areas by
Scout troops.
March - Dedication of Texas Sesquicentennial Park on
March 2, 1986. Park to be developed by
donations from individuals and organizations.
April - Cooperate with Chamber of Commerce on annual
"Take Pride in Allen" clean-up campaign.
May - Veterans Recognition Day on Memorial Day, May
26.
June - Contest to design best store window display on
a Sesquicentennial theme. Winner, selected
by a committee from local Chamber of Commerce
will be featured in local newspapers.
July - Sesquicentennial Fair Week (June 30 - July 5)
"Old -Time" events: beard growing judging,
strolling art show; street dance; fireworks
display. Joint effort of all local civic,
business and Sesquicentennial groups.

August - Wildflower seeding in median of US 75 between
Bethany and McDermott Drives.
September - Labor Day Fun Run on September 1. Chamber
of Commerce annual Country Fair.
October - Chili Cook -off. (No date set)
November - dedicate marker at local interurban depot.
December - Annual Christmas Parade, first Saturday in
December,— December 6. Theme of "Old -Time
Christmas"
SECTION 2: Changes and Modifications
Any changes and modifications upon the celebration
activities listed in the Master Plan shall be brought forward
for approval by City Council.
SECTION 3. Communication with State Commission
The committee shall forward all forms regarding the
sanctioning of the Allen's Texas Sesquicentennial Celebration
Committee to the State Commission.
Further required information and communication between
the local and State committees shall be made directly from
the local committee officers and/or City staff as needed.
