A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALLEN, COLLIN
COUNTY, TEXAS, ORDERING A SPECIAL ELECTION TO BE HELD ON
AUGUST 13, 1994, IN RESPONSE TO A PETITION FROM THE FIRE FIGHTERS'
ASSOCIATION REQUESTING A VOTE OF THE CITIZENS RELATIVE TO THE
ADOPTION OR REJECTION OF THE FIRE FIGHTERS' CIVIL SERVICE LAW;
DESIGNATING LOCATION OF POLLING PLACE; ORDERING NOTICES OF
ELECTION; AND DESIGNATING SAID ELECTION BE CONDUCTED IN
ACCORDANCE WITH THE TEXAS ELECTION CODE AND TO BE HELD IN THE
CITY OF ALLEN, COLLIN COUNTY, TEXAS.
WHEREAS, a petition signed by citizens of the City of Allen was presented to the City Secretary, the
Mayor and City Council of the City of Allen, Texas, on March 22, 1994, requesting a special election be
held in accordance with the Texas Local Government Code, Chapter 143 and the Texas Election Code; and,
WHEREAS, said petition requested a proposition be submitted to a vote of the citizens of the City of Allen
relative to the adoption or rejection of the fire fighters' civil service law; and,
WHEREAS, said petition contained a total of 360 signatures, 206 of which were validated to be of
qualified voters equaling at least ten percent (10%) of the number of voters who voted in the last municipal
election; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Allen desires to conform its practices with State law:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALLEN,
TEXAS, THAT:
SECTION 1. The City Council hereby accepts the petition submitted in accordance with Chapter 143 of
the Local Government Code and in compliance with Chapter 277 of the Texas Election Code.
SECTION 2. The City Council hereby designates stated proposition to be included on the ballot in
accordance with the Texas Election Code and Chapter 143 of the Local Government Code dealing with Civil
Service.
"Adoption of the fire fighters' civil service law."

SECTION 3. The City Council hereby orders a special election relative to the adoption or'rejection of the
fire fighters' civil service law to be held on August 13, 1994, being the first authorized uniform election date
prescribed by Chapter 41 of the Election Code, that occurs after the petition is filed and that allows sufficient
time to comply with other requirements of law.
SECTION 4. The polling place where qualified voters shall cast ballots at such location in the City of Allen
special election is as follows:

Two Allen Civic Plaza
Allen, Texas
Election polls shall be open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
SECTION 5. Early voting by personal appearance shall be available at the Allen Public Library, Two Allen
Civic Plaza, Allen, Texas, beginning on Monday, July 25, 1994 and continuing through Tuesday, August
9, 1994, during the normal working hours of 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. with extended early voting available
on Thursday, August 4, during the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, August 6, 1994, during
the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
SECTION 6. The City Secretary is hereby authorized and directed to publish and/or post, in the time and
manner prescribed by law, all notices required to be so published and/or posted in connection with the
conduct of this election.
