City Council, City of Allen
Present: Mayor Frank Dugger
Councilmen: C.D. Whitaker, H.C. Brooks, Jr., Mickey Pierson and
Clifford Hart.
Absent: Bob Lawman.
Motion Mickey Pierson Second Clifford Hart that minutes of last meeting be
approved as read. Notion carried 4 for 0 against.
Boyd Williams of Texas Power and Light appeared in reference to a rate increase
he said was needed to insure the good service and availability of electric power
for the future. Mr. Williams made a 20 minute presentation which showed
the increases in the cost of diel . Motion Clifford Hart Second Mickey
Pierson that T.P. & L. be granted a 11% increase. Motion carried 4 for 0 against.
Motion Clifford Hart Second H.C. Brooks, Jr., to accept the bid of Stimson
Contracting Co. for the Allen Heights drainage ditch. The amount of this bid was
$ 43,116.50. Motion carried 4 for 0 against.
City Secretary Larry Moore discussed the fact that he tried a new way of
handling past -due water bills. Before anyone was cut-off, Mfr. Moore attempted
to contact each one by telephone. Each one was called 2 times per day for 2
days with only 2 people being contacted.
Council discussed requests for overtime pay by Jim Eaton and Anthony Hancock.
Council decided that as department heads these men were exempt form overtime.
Assistant Police Chief appeared and requested that City purchase 3-4 engravers
so that the citizens might mark all their property which serves as a deterrent as well
as aids the police in locating the property owner if same should be stolen.
Housley also asked that the City send the safety patrol children to Camp Copus
in Denton. Motion Mickey Pierson Second H.C. Brooks, jr., that City would
pay half of the expense if the school will pay the other half. Motion carried
4 for 0 against.
Motion Mickey Pierson Second Clifford Hart to pay bills presented. Motion carried
4 for 0 against.
Motion Mickey Pierson Second Clifford Hart that meeting adjourn. Motion carried
4 for 0 against.
