HomeMy WebLinkAboutMin - Public Art Committee - 2008 - 04/15 - Called APRIL 15, 2008 - 6:30 P.M PUBLIC ART COMMITTEE CALLED MEETING PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT CONFERENCE ROOM ALLEN, TEXAS MEMBERS PRESENT: Jane Bennett, Chair Ann Carroll, Vice-Chair Brad Greene, Secretary Dave Baldwin Denise Gilbert Emile Carriere Sharon Lakes MEMBERS ABSENT: None GUESTS PRESENT: None STAFF PRESENT: Matt McComb, Landscape Architect Sue Witkowski, Senior Administrative Assistant 1. Call to Order and Announce a Quorum is Present Chair, Jane Bennett, called the meeting to order at 6:35 pm. 2. Approve Minutes from the February 19, 2008 Regular Meeting MOTION: Denise Gilbert moved to accept the minutes as amended, Emile Carriere seconded and the Motion carried, 7 for, 0 against. 3. Artist Selection Panels - first meeting Wednesday 16th EStaff agreed to research and confirm the correct date, time and location of this first meeting of the Artist Selection Panel. Public Art Committee April 15 2008 Minutes-Page 2 4. Fire Station #5 Dave Baldwin indicated that he will be reviewing the landscaping plans for this facility, and that Jeff Bulla(architect)had indicated an opportunity for public art might be best suited in an "outdoor" setting. Dave indicated that it might be possible he would have a site plan to share by the next meeting of this Committee. 5. Other Items for Information or Discussion Ann Carroll shared her thoughts on a possible new project of public art in pole banners around Allen. Staff will be getting an inventory of how many poles currently have brackets attached for hanging banners, as well as the ability of this Committee to solicit donations from area businesses to support this project. Various Committee members will be researching data on the banners and reporting back at the next regular meeting. Denise indicated she'd not seen the public service announcement prepared on public art, but will let us know if it becomes available. Jane Bennett indicated a brochure on this Committee and Public Art in Allen might be timely. Matt McComb, Landscape Architect for the Parks and Recreation Department presented a Power Point of the submissions by artists for the Library Donor project. 6. Set Next Regular Meeting of this Committee May 20th will be the next regular meeting of this Committee. 7.
