Call to Order and Announce a Quorum is Present Chairman, Jane Bennett, called the meeting to order at 6:35 pm 2. Approve Minutes from the July 29,2008 Regular Meeting Lori Smeby clarified that the minutes from July 29 referenced the public art work at the Allen Public Library as "Ocean of Knowledge", and explained that while that was an error, the correct name is "Oceano"; the minutes reflected what was actually said. MOTION: Sharon Lakes moved to accept the minutes as presented, Denise Gilbert seconded and the Motion carried, 6 for, 0 against. Public Art Committee August 19,2008 Minutes-Page 2 3. Approve Library Donor Recognition Project Budget Adjustment Following a brief explanation of the concern for additional funding on this project, MOTION: Emile Green moved to increase the budget on the Allen Public Library Donor Recognition Project up to,but no more than$130,000 from the original budget amount of$115,000. Sharon Lakes seconded and the Motion carried, 6 for, 0 against. 4. Fire Station 5- Project Update Provided by the Architect,Jeff D. Bulla III Jeff Bulla of pro forma architecture made a brief presentation regarding this project, describing its features and the goal of a "green" facility. Several areas were pointed as a possible location of public art, and Jeff indicated he would be glad to work with an artist regarding the project. Staff will be putting together a Call for Artist on this project, communicating the concept of environmental responsibility. Staff indicated they would plan to have that done by the second week in September. Jeff indicated that the facility could start construction in the spring of 2009 with anticipated completion of the fire station in the fall of 2009. Lori asked the Committee members to come to the September meeting with names to nominate for a selection panel appointment. 5. Chac Update Following the receipt of one bid for the foundation on this piece of art, staff met with City Manager, Peter Vargas and subsequently determined that the bid was too high and made the decision to postpone this project for a few months to see if the price of concrete work might come down. Correspondence has transpired with the original donor regarding the progress on placement of this piece of art. 6. Set Next Regular Meeting of this Committee September 16, 2008 will be the next regularly scheduled meeting of this Committee. Public Art Committee August 19,2008 Minutes-Page 3 7.
