' A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALLEN, COLLIN
COUNTY, TEXAS, INSTALLING THE CITY COUNCIL AS THE REVIEW
COMMITTEE RESPONSIBLE FOR DRAFTING PROPOSED AMENDMENTS FOR
THE CITY CHARTER
WHEREAS, in January 1979, the voters of Allen adopted the city's first home rule charter; and,
WHEREAS, in May 1995, the voters of Allen adopted amendments to the home rule charter, unchanged since
that time; and,
WHEREAS, the City Council finds that some sections of the present charter are in need of updating, and
therefore, no longer serve the best interests of the citizens of Allen; and,
WHEREAS, the City Council will act as the review committee to determine which amendments will be
proposed to the voters; and,
WHEREAS, the City Council will review possible amendments to the home rule charter during the August
2000 budget workshop.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALLEN,
COLLIN COUNTY, TEXAS, THAT:
' SECTION 1: The City Council installs itself as the review committee to review the home rule charter to
determine whether or not to bnng forward proposed amendments to the voters.
SECTION 2: The City Council itself will review the existing charter, consider and draft amendments
without the redundancy of an additional citizens' commission for those purposes.
