R-1642-10-98RESOLUTION NO. 1642-10-98 ' A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALLEN, COLLIN COUNTY, TEXAS, REQUESTING THAT THE COLLIN COUNTY INCLUDE SUFFICIENT FUNDS FOR LOCAL ROAD PROJECTS AND THE RESTORATION OF THE OLD COLLIN COUNTY COURTHOUSE ON THE FEBRUARY 1999 BOND ELECTION BALLOT. WHEREAS, it is acknowledged that the old Collin County Courthouse is listed on The National Trust for Historic Preservation and is designated a Texas Archaeological Landmark thereby signifying its historical significance and archaeological value; and, WHEREAS, in recognition that the old courthouse was vacated by the county in 1979 and continues to be vacant almost 20 years later and, now is in need of restoration in order to be useful for the citizens of the county; and, WHEREAS, with concem that continued disuse of the old courthouse and allowing further deterioration fosters a measure of disregard for the historical significance of the structure and is inconsistent with the economic wellbeing of the county; and, WHEREAS, notwithstanding the foregoing, the Allen City Council believes that the construction of Alma Road from Exchange Parkway to SH 121, and of Stacy Road from US 75 to SH 121, are projects vital to the economic well-being of the entire county; ' NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALLEN, COLLIN COUNTY, TEXAS THAT: The Collin County Commissioners include sufficient funds for constructing Alma Road and Stacy Road in Allen, and the restoration of the old Collin County Courthouse, on the February 1999 Bond Election Ballot thereby giving the citizens of the county an opportunity to determine, by vote, the fate of the old courthouse along with other worthy projects.
