A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALLEN, COLLIN
COUNTY, TEXAS, SUPPORTING THE EFFORT OF THE ALLEN INDEPENDENT
SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD OF TRUSTEES TO PLAN FOR AND PROVIDE
ADEQUATE FACILITES IN ORDER TO MAINTAIN A HIGH QUALITY PUBLIC
SCHOOL SYSTEM IN THE CITY OF ALLEN.
WHEREAS, the City of Allen and the Allen Independent School District are separate governmental entities,
having their own governing structure, but having a common service area, and a large overlapping
geographical area served by the respective jurisdictions; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Allen is one of the fastest growing communities in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex
area having an average growth rate of 8 % between 1990 and 1998; and,
WHEREAS, approximately 1/4 of the entire population of the City is of public school age; and,
WHEREAS, population projections indicate the community will continue to grow at an accelerated rate
beyond the tum of the century; and,
WHEREAS, a quality public school system is essential to serve the large number of students of school age
and to provide adequately for the orderly growth of the community; and,
WHEREAS, the public school system is an integral part of the community and benefits all of the citizens;
and,
WHEREAS, adequate facilities are necessary to house programs offered in a quality public school system;
and,
WHEREAS, an organized citizens committee, "Project Kids," advised the AISD Board of Trustees on
growth trends and recommend appropriate strategies for meeting the needs of students and staff for the near
and long term; and,
WHEREAS, the Board of Trustees placed before the voters a bond proposal that will facilitate the purchase of
land, building renovations, ADA compliance, Allen High School Phases 2B, 2C and 3A, an alternative
school, two new elementary schools, one new middle school and a natatorium, and,
WHEREAS, the AISD Board of Trustees has called a bond election for September 12, 1998, for that
purpose;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALLEN,
COLLIN COUNTY, TEXAS THAT:
SECTION 1: The Allen City Council supports the efforts of the AISD Board of Trustees to adequately plan
for the present and future school population of the community, as represented in the bond proposal to be voted
' on September 12, 1998.
SECTION 2: The Allen City Council reconvnends that all citizens of the community examine the issues
thoroughly and vote on September 12, 1998.
