A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALLEN, COLLIN
COUNTY, TEXAS, DESIGNATING THE MONTH OF MAY AS "BICYCLE
TRANSPORTATION MONTH."
WHEREAS, bicycling can be a safe, efficient, cost-effective, healthy mode of transportation; and
WHEREAS, the North Central Texas Council of Government's Mobility 2020: The Metropolitan
Transportation Plan establishes a regional goal of increasing access and safety for bicyclists; and,
WHEREAS, Collin, Dallas, Denton and Tarrant counties are classified by the United States Environmental
Protection Agency as a novattainment area for ozone; and,
WHEREAS, bicycle transportation is a popular, straightforward approach to reducing emissions and
improving air quality; and,
WHEREAS, the League of American Bicyclist's has established May as National Bike Month to encourage
increased awareness of the bicycling throughout the United States.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALLEN,
COLLIN COUNTY, TEXAS THAT:
' SECTION 1: The City Council of the City of Allen hereby designates that the month of May in this year
1998 shall be Bicycle Transportation Month in North Central Texas.
SECTION 2: Local governments in North Central Texas are likewise encouraged to establish May as Bicycle
Transportation Month in their own jurisdictions.
SECTION 3: The !Ciclo en Mayo! Celebration held in May 1998 in order to celebrate the great holiday
of Cinco de Mayo and bicycle commuting shall be recognized as the greatest Celebration of Bicycle
Containing in the State of Texas.
SECTION 4: This resolution shall be in effect immediately upon its adoption.

COUNTY, TEXAS, ON THIS THE 16TH DAY OF APRIL, 1998.
