Min - City Council - 1988 - 05/12 - Special CalledALLEN CITY COUNCIL CALLED - SPECIAL SESSION MAY 12, 1988 Present Joe Farmer, Mayor Council Members- Rex Womack Jerry Wilson, Mayor Pro Tem Bobby Glass Jim Pendleton Absent: Jim Wolfe Jack Pennington Newly Elected Council Member: Gary Edstrom City Staff: Jon McCarty, City Manager Marty Hendrix, City Secretary With a quorum of the Council Members present, the called - special session of the Allen City Council was called to order by Mayor Farmer at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 12, 1988, in the Council Chambers of the Allen Municipal Annex, One Butler Circle, Allen, Texas. Canvass of Election Returns for the May 7, 1988 City Council Election (Agenda Item II) City Secretary Marty Hendrix reviewed for the City Council the election returns for the City Council Election held on Saturday, May 7, 1988. Ms. Hendrix pointed out to the Council that in the handout materials there was the register of officials ballots for the regular polling place and the absentee polling place, the election returns as calculated by the election judge, and a summary of the precinct returns showing the total votes received. There was no action taken on this item. Resolution No. 853-5-88(R): A Resolution of the City Council of the City of Allen, Collin County, Texas, Declaring the Results of the General Election of the Allen City Council Held on May 7, 1988. (Agenda Item III) City Secretary Marty Hendrix advised the Council that the proposed resolution showed the total cumulative votes cast in the election, being 678, with the following individuals being declared to receive the highest number of votes and being declared as the official elected Mayor and Council Members: Joe Farmer - Mayor's Place Jerry W. Wilson, Councilman - Place No. 2 Jim Wolfe, Councilman - Place No. 4 Gary E. Edstrom, Councilman - Place No. 6 MOTION: Upon a motion made by Councilman Womack and seconded by Councilman Glass, the Council voted five (5) for and none (0) opposed to approve and adopt Resolution No. 853-5-88(R), as captioned previously. The motion carried. Administration of Oaths -of -Office by City Secretary and Presentation of CertilItes of Election by Mayor (Agenda Item IV) City Secretary Marty Hendrix administered the oaths -of -office to the re- elected Mayor, Joe Farmer; to the re-elected Councilman in Place No. 2, Jerry Wilson, and to the newly elected Councilman in Place No. 6, Gary Edstrom. Re-elected Councilman Jim Wolfe was absent from this meeting. ALLEN CITY COUNCIL CALLED - SPECIAL SESSION MAY 12, 1988 Page 3 Administration of Oaths -of -Office by City Secretary and Presentation of Certificates of Election by Mawr (cont'd) (Agenda Item IV) City Secretary Marty Hendrix presented the Certificate of Election to Mayor Farmer. Mayor Farmer then presented the Certificates of Election to Councilman Jerry Wilson and Councilman Gary Edstrom and offered con- gratulations to those individuals. At this time, Councilman Gary Edstrom took his place on the Council Bench. Mayor Farmer announced to the Council that they would now, at 6:40 p.m., adjourn into executive session to consider matters pertaining to personnel. Executive Session (Agenda Item V) In accordance with Article 6252-17, V.A.T.C.S., (Open Meetings Law), Section 2(g), the Allen City Council convened into executive session at 6:41 p.m. in the conference room of the Allen Municipal Annex, One Butler Circle, to discuss matters pertaining to personnel. The executive session was adjourned at 6:47 p.m. Election of a Mayor Pro Tem (Agenda Item VI) Mayor Farmer opened the floor for nominations to Mayor Pro Tem. Councilman Pendleton nominated Councilman Jerry Wilson as Mayor Pro Tem. MOTION: Upon a motion made by Councilman Womack and seconded by Councilman Glass, the Council voted six (6) for and none (0) opposed that the nominations cease and to elect by acclamation Councilman Jerry Wilson as the Mayor Pro Tem. The motion carried. Items of Interest to the Council (Agenda Item VII) There were no items of interest to be brought before the Council at this time. Adjournment (Agenda Item VIII) MOTION: Upon a motion made by Councilman Edstrom and seconded by Councilman Glass, the Council voted six (6) for and none (0) opposed to adjourn the called - special session of the Allen City Council at 6:50 p.m. on Thursday, May 12, 1988.
