Call to Order and Announce a Ouorum is Present
With a quorum of the Board Members present, 1 e Vice -Chair Smith called the meeting to order at
6:00 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers at Allen City Hall, 305 Century Parkway.
Election of Officers
1. Elect a Chair, 1' Vice -Chair and 2nd Vice -Chair.
I" Vice -Chair Smith opened the floor for nominations for Board of Adjustment, Sign Control
Board, and Building Standards Commission Chan.
Motion: Upon a motion by 2" Vice -Chair Harrison, the Board voted 4 IN
FAVOR, and 3 OPPOSED to elect Ms. Deborah Angell Smith to the
Board Chair position.
The motion carried.
Chair Smith opened the floor for nominations for Board of Adjustment, Sign Control Board, and
Building Standards Commission 1" Vice -Chair Position.
Motion: Upon a motion by Board Member Gillis, the Board voted 7 IN
FAVOR, and 0 OPPOSED to elect Ms. Kimberly L. Harrison to the
Board 1" Vice -Chair position.
The motion carried.
Chair Smith opened the floor for nominations for Board of Adjustment, Sign Control Board, and
Building Standards Commission 2nd Vice -Chair Position.
Motion: Upon a motion by 1" Vice -Chair Harrison, the Board voted 7 IN
FAVOR, and 0 OPPOSED to elect Mr. Ken Barry to the Board 2"4
Vice -Chair position.
The motion carried.
Consent Aeenda
2. Approve minutes from the November 11, 2017, Regular Meeting.
Motion: Upon a Motion by 2"d Vice -Chair Barry and a second by 1" Vice -Chair
Harrison, the Board voted 7 IN FAVOR and 0 OPPOSED, to approve the
November 11, 2017 Minutes with the following conditions: (1) a revision on
page 5, paragraph 2, correcting "stated" to "asked"; (2) 1" Vice -Chair
Harrison be listed as "Kimberly L. Harrison"; (3) Chair Smith be listed as
present as "Deborah Angell Smith".
The motion carried.
Workshop
' 3. Board Training: City Attorney explanation and review of ordinance, statutory, and case issues
relative to the duties and actions of the Board of Adjustment, Sign Control Board, and Building
Standards Commission.
Mr. Kevin Laughlin, Attorney, explained the duties and actions of the Board of Adjustment, Sign
Control Board, and Building Standards Commission.
Adjournment
Motion: Upon a motion by Board Member Shepard and a second by Board Member
Doherty, the Board voted 7 IN FAVOR, and 0 OPPOSED to adjourn the
meeting at 7:40 p.m.
The motion carried.
