Harrison, 1" Vice -Chair City Staff Present: ' Madhmi Mohan, AICP, Senior Planner Hayley Angel, Planner Jordan Caudle, Planning Technician Kevin Laughlin, Attorney BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT SIGN CONTROL BOARD BUILDING STANDARDS COMMISSION Regular Meeting April 2, 2015 Call to Order and Announce a Quorum is Present With a quorum of the Board Members present, Chair Smith called the meeting to order at 6:01 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers at Allen City Hall, 305 Century Parkway. Consent Agenda 1. Approve minutes from the December 4, 2017, Workshop Meeting. Motion: Upon a Motion by 2"d Vice -Chair Barry and a second by Board Member Gillis, the Board voted 5 IN FAVOR and 0 OPPOSED, to approve the December 4, 2017 Minutes with the following conditions: (1) a revision to Chair Smith's name. The motion carried. Workshop ' 2. Public Hearing— Conduct a Public Hearing and consider a request for a variance from the side yard setback which otherwise does not allow a built structure pursuant to the Board's authority under Allen Land Development Code Sec. 2.02.2.1(d) for Lot 1, Block 1, The First United Church of Allen (and more commonly known as 601 S. BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT SIGN CONTROL BOARD BUILDING STANDARDS COMMISSION ' APRIL 2, 2018 PAGE Greenville Avenue); generally located east of Greenville Avenue and north of Prestige Circle. (BOA -031518-0002) [First United Methodist Church of Allen]. Ms. Angel, Planner, presented the item to the Board. Ms. Angel stated that the request is for a variance to the northern side yard setback for the First United Methodist Church of Allen. She noted that staff is in support of the agenda item. Chair Smith opened the public hearing. With no one speaking, Chair Smith closed the public hearing. 2"d Vice -Chair Barry asked staff if this case would set a precedent should it be approved by the Board. Ms. Angel stated that, considering the specifics of the lot and the surrounding zoning districts, staff felt that it was a unique circumstance and would not set a precedent. ' Board Member Shepard asked staff if there was any communication from the surrounding property owners who were sent notices of the request. Ms. Angel stated that, while staff had received a phone call asking for more information, there were no responses from surrounding property owners. Motion: Upon a Motion by Board Member Shepard and a second by 2"d Vice - Chair Barry, the Board voted 5 IN FAVOR and 0 OPPOSED, to approve the request to permit the variance from the side yard setback for the First United Methodist Church of Allen. The motion carried.
