The Council, Board members and guests enjoyed dinner prior to the regular meeting. During this time, Penni Jones, Curtis Middle School teacher, reviewed use of the Internet by students at Curtis. Following her presentation, Board and City Councilmembers were given the opportunity to "surf the net" on computers set up in the Curtis Middle School Library ALLEN CITY COUNCIL SPECIAL CALLED JOINT MEETING MAY 25, 1995 PAGE 2 Call to Order and Announce a Quoram is Present - Mayor Joe Farmer, President Glenn Andrew (Agenda Rem 1) With a quorum of the Councilmembers and Board members present, the Joint Meeting of the Allen City Council and the Allen Independent School District (AISD) Board of Trustees was called to order by Mayor Farmer and Board President Andrew at 7:25 p m, on Thursday, May 25, 1995, in the Curtis Middle School Library, 1530 Rivercrest, Allen, Texas. Mayor Farmer introduced and welcomed newly elected City Councilmember Doug Gallagher. Board President Andrew introduced and welcomed newly elected Board member John Garcia. Update on School Resource Officer (SRO) Proeram - Richard Carroll (Agenda Item II) Police Chief Richard Carroll provided an update on the School Resource Officer (SRO) program, indicating that it has been highly successful this year at the middle schools. Allen Station/LLG Property - Rhoda Savaee, John Green (Agenda Item III) Rhoda Savage, Director of Parks and Recreation, reviewed the status of the "Allen Station" park project and John Green, realtor, gave information regarding the school district's interest in the adjacent property (currently owned by LLG) for a school site. Update on Streets and Roads - Georee Conner (Agenda Item IV) George Conner, Director of Public Works, gave a status report on street and road projects coming up within the near future. Review Procedures for Crossing Guards for Back -to -School - Georee Conner, Steve West (Agenda Item V) George Conner, Director of Public Works, and Steve West, Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Operations, reviewed procedures for school crossing guards. Review Blockbuster Rightof-Way - Bob Curtis (Agenda Item VI) Bob Curtis, Property Services Director, informed the Board and City Council of plans to obtain right-of- way from Blockbuster Video in order to provide an additional entrance/exit to SH 5 from the north parking lot at Allen High School. Left Turn Lane Onto Jupiter - Georee Conner (Agenda Item VII) George Conner, Director of Public Works, indicated that interest had been expressed about providing a left turn time onto Jupiter Road off of Main Street but stated that this is not practical until the third or fourth phase of construction on Main Street. Board and City Council took a break at 8:45 p.m. and returned at 8:55 p.m. ALLEN CITY COUNCIL SPECIAL CALLED JOINT MEETING MAY 25, 1995 PAGE 3 Economic Development Update - David Pitstick (Agenda Item VIII) David Pitstick, Director of Economic Development, provided an update on new businesses/restaurants in the City and prospective development within the near future AISD Growth/Et rollment Update - Steve West (Agenda Item IX) A report on AISD growth and enrollment was given by Steve West, Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Operations. Project Kids' Update - John Rapier (Agenda Item X) John Rapier, attorney, made a presentation on Project Kids' findings regarding facility needs for AISD. School Site Comprehensive Plan - Bob Curtis, Steve West (Agenda Item )iI) Bob Curtis, Property Services Director, reviewed a proposed comprehensive plan for elementary school sites. AISD Technology Vision/Plan - ��11 Carol Smith/Penni Jones/Brad Phillips (Agenda Item )[II) Carol Smith, Coordinator of Technology, presented AISD's technology vision/plan Adiourn (Agenda Item XIII) The Allen City Council and the AISD Board of Trustees adjourned the Special Called Joint Meeting at 10:48 p.m. on Thursday, May 25, 1995 These minutes approved on the 15th day of lune , 1995.
