Min - Parks and Recreation Board - 1981 - 01/22 - RegularMinutes Park and Recreation Board January 22, 1981 Members Present: Wendell Housley, David Morgan, Ron Workman, Jerry Owens, Helen Johnson I. Meeting was called to order by Wendell Housley. II. Minutes from the December 23, 1980 and November 25, 1980 meetings were approved by unanimous vote. III A report was made by the Director on the condition of various parks. The Board was given an update on the Texas Parks and Wildlife Grant. The Director made a request from the Board to make a recommenda- tion to the Council to approve the expenditure of $1300.00 from the Parks Dedication Fund for the purchase of soccer goals. The request passed. 5 Yes 0 No. IV. The Board sent the following to the Council. It is recommended that the City Council accept a donation of $500.00 from the Allen Sports Associa- tion and approve the expenditure of $1300.00 from the Parks Dedication Fund to purchase (6) six sets of soccer goals as described in the Director's Memo at a cost of $1800.00. The goals will be the property and responsibility of the City of Allen Park and Recreation Department. V. A report by Ron Fix and John [hand on Capitol Im- provement Plan was shown to the Board for their review and discussion. Any recommendation on approval were withheld until the next meeting providing additional time for study. VI. Discussions of the By -Laws were postponed until the February 26th meeting. i cont. Minutes, January 22nd meeting VII A special report by the Joint Facilities Committee was made on their meeting with Dr. John Horn, Superintendent of Allen Schools. The report gave the schools interest and position. The school acknowledged the Cities recreation responsibilities and the schools willingness to see gyms used as much as possible with no objections to Saturday and Sunday use of school facilities. The school desires a broad joint facilities agreement with special in- terest on maintenance. VIII The Parks and Recreation Board also discussed the possibility of leasing the Middle School Gym when it is vacated in March of this year. The Board requested the staff to submit a proposal for the city use of the gym for the board's review. IX A motion was made by Jerry Owens to adjourn. Second by Helen Johnson.
