APPROVE MINUTES FROM DECEMBER 10, 2001 REGULAR CALLED MEETING A Page 2 Parks and Recreation Board Meeting January 14, 2002 MOTION: Anne Campbell moved to accept the Minutes from December 10, 2001 Regular Called Meeting as presented. Ben Ferguson seconded and the Motion carried 4 for, 0 against. 3. ADJUSTED RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR THE DON RODENBAUGH NATATORIUM — TIM DENTLER Tim Dentler reported that with the opening of the Natatorium, staff has had the opportunity to review operations, and several recommendations have been made to amend and add to the posted rules and regulations of the facility New rules are being proposed as follows: Additional Pool Rules: "A person must be at least 48" in height to use the waterslide" "Diving in shallow water (less than 5' deep) is prohibited" "Look at the ride and then decide if you or your child can safely participate" Additional Slide Rules "One person at a time — no lap riders" "Riders are not permitted to "swing" onto slide" "Exit the catch pool immediately when you get to the bottom" "Wait for the lifeguard to signal your tum" "Weight limit* 250 pounds" "Look at the ride and then decide if you or your child can safely participate" Playground Rules: "Children taller than 52" are not allowed on the playground" "Adults are allowed if they are accompanying a child less than 52" tall" "One person at a time on slide (no lap riders)" "Do not climb up slide backwards" "Only children are permitted to ride small slide" "Look at the ride and then decide if you or your child can safely participate" Lazy River Rules. "Flotation devices are provided" "Non and weak swimmers must wear U.S. Coastguard approved lifejackets" "One person per tube" "Use only designated entrance/exit" Page 3 Parks and Recreation Board Meeting January 14, 2002 "Look at the ride and then decide if you or your child can safely participate" MOTION: Carl Clemencich, Jr. moved to accept the above additional rules for the Don Rodenbaugh as presented, Anne Campbell seconded and the Motion carried 7 for, 0 against. 4. UPDATE ON CELEBRATION PARK SIGNAGE REVIEW — BRIAN BRISTOW Brian Bristow, Landscape Architect for the City of Allen Parks and Recreation Department reviewed with the Board his presentation to the Sign Control Board at their last meeting January 7, 2002. Brian pointed out the concessions made by staff regarding the height of the entry sign, as well as presented the secondary sign proposal Following a brief discussion on the sign package and how it relates to the facility in general, Brian reported that it is still the hope of staff to have Fall 2002 soccer played at this facility �u Brian also reported that Don and he have met with the developer of the property ■s west of Ford Middle School, and that he is willing to donate 5+ acres in this development to the City of Allen 5. REQUEST FOR TOURNAMENTS — TIM DENTLER Tim Dentler, Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation reported that the Allen High School "Lady Eagles" Softball Program has requested to hold a Junior Varsity and Varsity tournament utilizing both Allen Station Park and Ford Park. The "Slugging Eagle Booster Club" has requested the City of Allen allow them to charge a gate fee at these toumaments. Staff sees this as an opportunity to work with AISD as well as receive widespread exposure for our facilities in Allen. The Board agreed that if no displacement of other users were encountered, this was a good idea. 6. OTHER BUSINESS Don Horton provided the Board with a copy of a proposed agreement for use of the Don Rodenbaugh Natatorium with "Metroplex Aquatics, Inc." He indicated this was for their review only, and that no action would be taken this evening by the Board. Don also pointed out that this agreement would economically enhance Page 4 Parks and Recreation Board Meeting January 14. 2002 El the natatorium and in particular the competition pool area. Following a brief discussion on this proposal, Dun indicated that the Board would be contacted by electronic mail pnor to this item going to City Council for authorization. Don reviewed the staff changes within the Parks and Recreation Department, as well as provided a brief update on pending projects with the City park system. S.
