"Cal' Calvin, Committee for a New Library and Civic Auditorium 7 P.M. — PRE -MEETING WORKSHOP: CALL TO ORDER Chair Jim Waldbauer called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. El 2. QUESTIONS ON CURRENT AGENDA Page 2 Parks and Recreation Board Meeting July 10, 2000 No questions were brought forth at this time 3. OPEN FORUM — Dallas Bid for Olympics, 2012 — Steve Mathews Steve made a brief presentation to the Board regarding the efforts by the City of Dallas as well as Collin County to be part of the Summer Olympics in the year 2012. Following a brief presentation, it was discussed that the City of Allen might need to appoint a representative to head up this effort, specifically in the upcoming weeks as data is gathered for the submission packet. Steve presented a video done by the representatives of Collin County in an effort to represent the facilities that would be available for both game and practice venues should Dallas be selected as the host for this event. 7:30 P.M. — REGULAR MEETING: 4. APPROVE MINUTES FROM JUNE 12, 2000 REGULAR CALLED MEETING MOTION: Kevin Pierce moved to accept the Minutes from June 12, 2000 Regular Called Meeting as presented. Anne Campbell seconded, and the Motion canned 6 for, 0 against. 5. CITIZENS COMMENTS There were no citizens wishing to speak to the Board at this time. 6. REPRESENTATIVE OF LIBRARY SPEAKER'S BUREAU PRESENTATION Barbara Buehler introduced Mr. Cal Calvin, representing the Committee for a New Library and Civic Auditorium to the Board. Mr Calvin spoke to the Board regarding the upcoming Bond Election for the purpose of purchasing land and building a new library which would contain a civic auditorium. Mr Calvin reminded the Board of the projected growth in Allen, along with the anticipated needs for Library services The election will be held on August 12, 2000 from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. in the Allen Public Library 1 7. ALLEN USA WRAP-UP Page 3 Parks and Recreation Board Meeting July 10, 2000 Since Lisa Anderson was on vacation, Larry Kirk spoke briefly to the Board inviting their comments regarding this years event. Some of the comments received were that traffic control needed to be improved, and questions were raised about the lack of lasers at this years event. S. REVIEW OF PARK ORDINANCE PROPOSED REVISIONS —DON HORTON Don Horton reminded the Board that Kevin Pierce and Cheri Jones had served on an ad-hoc committee to work through the revisions being considered. He reviewed with the Board proposed changes to the Parks and Recreation Ordinance. Following several changes, the Board requested that the revised copy be brought back to their next meeting for another review prior to going to City Council for adoption. 9. OTHER BUSINESS Review of Board Work Plan — Jim Waldbauer Chair Jim Waldbauer briefly reviewed some of the issues in the work plan of the Parks and Recreation Board. It was determined that Landscape Architect, Brian Bristow could bring monument designs to the next meeting for review Don indicated that the Park Naming Policy could also be placed on the agenda for August. It was also determined that the Parks and Recreation Department should have a booth at the 17'" Annual National Night Out being sponsored by the Allen Police and Fire Departments on August I from 6-10 p.m. in Bethany Lakes Park. Board members will assist in manning this booth. 9.
