CITIZENS COMMENTS Page 2 Parks and Recreation Board Meeting September 13, 2004 Ben Ferguson called for any citizens wishing to speak to the Board on any issue other than what was currently called out on the agenda. There were no guests wishing to speak at this time. PUBLIC MEETING 3. RECEIVE PUBLIC INPUT REGARDING THE PROPOSED RENOVATIONS TO BETHANY LAKES PLAYGROUND Matt McComb, Park Planner for the Parks and Recreation Department gave a brief overview of the first public meeting and comments received, as well as reviewed the proposed design of this facility. A brief discussion was held regarding the placement of benches, trash containers and parental viewing capabilities. Matt pointed out one of the unusual features of this playground proposal will be the climbing rocks. All agreed that this will be a big attraction for the facility. Tim reminded the Board that this facility is being funded by 1/2 Cent Sales Tax money. 4. APPROVE MINUTES FROM AUGUST 9, 2004 REGULAR MEETING MOTION: Joey Herald moved to accept the Minutes from August 9, 2004 Regular Called Meeting as presented. Carl Clemencich seconded and the Motion carried with 5 for, 0 against. 5. ITEMS FOR BOARD MEMBERS DISCUSSION Vicki Wester — congratulated staff on the reception for Carly Patterson Carl Clemencich - commented that the Trail at the Woods is a jewel in the City of Allen Park System. Carl also asked about possibly installing benches that face the spray -ground area at Celebration Park. Cheryl Lawson - gave a brief subcommittee report on the consultant selection process for the Arts Master Plan. Joey Herald — Asked for an update on the Allen Senior Citizens Center, as well as announced the Kiwanis Club would be moving their annual Pancake Breakfast to be held the first Saturday in December to First Baptist Church. WORK PLAN — GOAL 2.0 Tim Dentler announced that the annual Report to City Council would likely be on the Agenda for October 19`h City Council Meeting. He invited members to email staff with suggestions or priorities of what should be placed in that report. Carl Clemencich requested the facility clean- up and follow-up by maintenance staff to Allen USA be reported. 7. ANTICIPATED UPDATE ON PARKS AND OPEN SPACE MASTER PLAN Landscape Architect for the City of Allen Parks and Recreation Department, Brian Bristow provided the following calendar of anticipated dates for the update of the Parks and Open Space Master Plan: 1"Draft November 1-21, 2004 2nd Draft December 1, 2004 Review by Mark Spencer December 15, 2004 -January 15, 2005 2"d Mark Spencer Review February 5, 2005 To TPWD for Review March 1-5, 2005 Edited Copy for Council April 5, 2005 Resolved by Council April 30, 2005 Final submittal to TPWD May 15, 2005 8. OTHER BUSINESS Staff Updates: Lighting of Athletic Fields at Celebration Park Brian Bristow also provided the following anticipated dates for the relocation of lighting from St. Mary's Park to Celebration Park. Locate poles in field Completed Install junction boxes Completed Deliver poles Approximately September 24, 2004 Install Poles and Fixtures September 24, 2004 -October 15, 2004 Dismantle St Mary Poles Post -Thanksgiving Chase Oaks Golf Club Update Tim Dentler informed the Board that October 15 is the current target date for closing on the Chase Oaks Golf Club. The Preliminary Due Diligence report has been provided to City Council on September 10. Page 4 Parks and Recreation Board Meeting September 13, 2004 Color Selection for Youth Center at Allen Station Park, Phase II Lori Smeby briefly reviewed the process and tentative color, carpet, and tile selections for the Youth Center at Allen Station Park. 9.
