Call to Order and Announce a Quorum is Present
With a quorum of the Committee Members present,the regular meeting of the Public Art Committee was
called to order by Vice Chair Bennett at 6:02 p.m. on Tuesday,August 17,2021,in the Community Room
of the Municipal Courts,Parks and Recreation Building,301 Century Parkway,Allen,Texas 75013.
Action Items
1. Approve Minutes from the June 16,2021 Regular Meeting
MOTION: Upon a motion made by Committee Member Bennett and seconded by
Committee Member Midkiff,the Committee voted five(5)for and none(0)
opposed to accept minutes from the June 16,2021 regular meeting as presented.
2. Identify and establish a future project budget.
The Committee continued to discuss several possibilities for upcoming projects. After
considering such projects as roundabouts,Current Drift addition,the Police Station,the Library
expansion,and Fire Station 6,it was suggested that the Stephen G.Terrell Recreation Center oval
be considered as a near future project and the following motion was presented.
MOTION: Upon a motion made by Committee Member Carroll and seconded by Committee
Member Midkiff,the Committee voted five(5)for and none(0)opposed to
pursue trailhead,trail entry point and other walkway opportunities as the next
•
Public Art project.

Member Gilbert,the Committee voted five(5)for and none(0)opposed to table
establishing a project budget until a future meeting when more information can
be gathered.
Discussion Items
3. Update on Current Projects
a. Don Rodenbaugh Natatorium
Staff met with the artist and Information Technology staff onsite earlier this month to
discuss project logistics.The artist is currently ordering LED panels and materials and
will send fabrication updates as the project progresses. There is a possible opportunity
for a meet and greet with the artist onsite on September 29,2021. Once the artist
confirms staff will notify the Committee.
b. Reborn Spirit
The tree carvings at Spirit Park are experiencing deterioration and the artist,as well as
staff,recommend that they be relocated indoor. Forestry staff can safely remove
sculptures and the artist has agreed to repair and seal them at no charge,following which
they will be able to be displayed at a to be determined indoor location.
4. Items of Interest(announcements regarding local civic and charitable events,meetings,
fundraisers,and awards)
a. Items for Future Agendas
Discussion of future projects.
b. Next Meeting: Tuesday, September 29,2021
